No simple answer and no simple list to search online. What records are available and where they are depends on when he served.
Go to the National Archives - web site at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm From the home page under "I'm Interested in" select Military History - scroll down - topics to research, select Merchant Navy - scroll down to seamen / women select dates served [possible his service may cover more than on date range]. Take the time to read the leaflets, including any links from them.
