Jack Metz 69th Engineer Topographic Co. New Guinea
Jack Metz was my Father's younger brother who entered the Army about 1939. He was from West Virginia and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at one point. He was in the 69th Engineer Topographic Company. His outfit spent time on New Guinea during 1944 and possibly 1943. They shipped out for San Pedro Bay, Leyte Island, Philippine Islands on October 18 aboard LST 552. Upon arrival on the 24th they came under Japanese air attack which continued into the following day. There were heavy casualties among the crew and Army passengers. Jack Metz was killed at that time. If anyone knew him while in the service please post on this board.
