3rd US Infantry, Company M - was it also artillery

I have photos of grandfather, Edward D McCormack, showing him in uniform in the Philippines in 1900 with 3rd US Infantry Co. M in his handwriting. I haven't been able to verify his death, but recently the country clerk of his last residence found him in a local cemetery's roster with a notation next to his name "62 Co. Coast (?) artillery." the handwriting is difficult to read. I thought artillery was separate from infantry - but at the turn of the last century, maybe they were all in the same regiment? I have tried to locate information on this, but there is not much available. Does anyone know military history well enough to help me out with this? I would be thankful for any help.
