With more research, I've discovered that this woman was Alles C. Sexton. She was formerly Alles C. Goatcher, and may actually be my ancestor. She may have been the mother of Nicholas E. Goatcher, who was the father of Melinda Minerva Goatcher, my grandmother's grandmother.
Alles C. Goatcher married Bazzil (or Brazil) Sexton in Lawrence County AR in the 1840s.
My mother grew up hearing stories about Alles C. Sexton being a doctor of sorts (and afraid of nothing) in Fulton County AR during the Civil War.
