These are the five company names known for the regiment.
In reference to the flag, it's not clear whether the regiment carried its own banner before being captured at Fort Donelson. After being exchanged, the regiment almost certainly carried a flag much like those of the Kentucky regiments in its brigade. For the Atlanta and Nashville Campaigns, check out Hugh Simmons' website on the 12th Louisiana Regt. At least one 3rd National belonging to Scott's Brigade was captured at Peachtree Creek. It was attributed to the 12th Louisiana, but Hugh is certain that it belongs to one of the Alabama regiments in the brigade. By that time the 27th Alabama had been consolidated in the field with the 35th and 49th Alabama Regiments.
