Hi,
I doubt anyone can help on this without a name to go by but I just am hoping for suggestions or anything really. I had a grandfather Elza Jefferson Bolton who's father was a Bolton his Mother a Purcell. He told me his Uncle was in Andersonville Prison, and survived to be released.

He would have been from Indiana probably Knox, or Vigo County but that is not known for sure, or Illinois Lawrence, or Robinson county's I believe,

The problem is being a kid then and in my 60's now doing genealogy i do not remember him mentioning a full name. It would be Bolton or Purcell and I believe it to be Purcell his Mother's side. The probelm is we though he said Uncle Jeff, or something like that, but the only Purcell I can find in the prison who survived and was released was Andrew Purcell . Is there a middle name or initial anywhere for him?

Our family, or that Purcell family had a habit of using the name Jefferson as a middle name like it was my grandfather's middle name, and I wondered if this Andrew could be Andrew Jefferson Purcell , or was there a Jeff , or Jefferson Purcell there that I can't find. They were all from Indiana, and Illinois. Is there any way I can find out who the prisoners named Purcell listed if they did as parents, or family, or where they came from, anything to help me find him.

Just any suggestions would be great I don't expect anyone to be able to find him from this I just wish when I heard the story when I was a small child I would have written down the name, or asked for his whole name, but who of us then knew we were going to do genealogy?

Thanks for any suggestions at all on how to find this man who has always fascinated me but I can't find him. I have always read up on the Civil War and books on this prison hoping to find him somehow, and also interested in the civil war.

Thanksa again for anything you can suggest,
