Missing a Civil War Veteran?

It might amaze many people to know that veterans from the Civil War often ended up in Veteran's Homes in California. Biennial reports to the state legislature list almost every state, Canada and Mexico as homes of these veterans.

Here is just a small sample from the Yountville, Napa County, California Veteran's Home for 1886:

Comrades deceased during the year

N. Diggs (Mexican Veteran), Company B, US Mounted Rifles, 25 Mar 1886
G. A. Barrington, Company B, 151st Illinois, 12 Apr 1886
J. Hund, Company A, First Iowa,17 Apr 1886
George Cole, Company D, 5th Wisconsin, 10 Sept 1886
O. Custer, (Mexican veteran), Company -, Tennessee Cavalry, 13 Dec 1886

Discharged at their own request:

H. C. Bickers, 8 June 1886; paid his fare East to the Home at Hampton, Virginia
F. H. Daily, 22 Nov 1886; gave him $10 for meals on the road to the Home in Leavenworth, Kansas, his friends there having sent him tickets to go there by rail.

This report came out every two years and I plan to post as many names as possible, as my time permits.

Regards,
Sharyn
