To anyone that could help with my search.
I have the following records (for the same person):
Name: Jerome B. Jones
Company: F
Unit: 8 Michigan Infantry.
Rank - Induction: Private
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Union
Notes: Jones, George B. P.
Source Citation: Box: 545;Extraction: 21; Record: 2541
Name: Jerome P. Jones
Company: F
Unit: 8 Michigan Infantry.
Rank - Induction: Private
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Union
Notes: Jones, George B. P.
Source Citation: Box: 545;Extraction: 21; Record: 2542
Note that the middle initials are different and that in the source citations, the record numbers are 2541 and 2542 but I believe that they are the same person.
Now that I have this what information can I obtain on Jerome Jones using the above information? I can't seem to find him in the 1870 or the 1880 census. His wife (Phebe Jones nee McCormick) states that she is a widow in the 1900 census. Are there Civil War pension records available to look at online? If you served, did you receive a pension? I have no idea what his war record was ie. when/where he mustered in and when/where he was discharged, what battles he fought and what happened to him after the war. Did the government keep track of Civil War veterans?
Any help at all in pointing me to what records are available, where/how I can obtain them, and what happened to Jerome Jones would be gratefully appreciated!
John
