The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War have a national project to document graves of Civil War Soldiers. In many places they are also placing headstones on graves of Union vets when the graves don't indicate that the person is a Union vet. Go to their website http://www.suvcw.org and poke around--lots of good info there.
