May I ask where this cemetery is, and can you tell me more about your ancestor? What regiment did he serve with? My suggestion would be to either call or go to the National Archives in DC, and ask to see the regimental records, specifically the quartermaster's records. Some regimental records will show where a soldier is buried, if he died during the war.
