Memphis fell to the Union in June 1862. Many soldiers from both sides were buried in Elmwood Cemetery (founded 1852). When the National Cemetery was established here in Memphis, the Union dead were moved there. (The Confederates are still at Elmwood).
I think the original National Cemetery in Memphis is "full" and they have started a second one, so if you do an online search, you'll want the older one. It is just off Jackson Ave. in north east Memphis, near National and National is probabbly the street address. I know they have good records of all people buried there and you might even find them online. Good Luck with your search.
