I tend to agree that the John Bowen that enlisted in Decatur and mustered out of the 8th on Jul 25, 1861 is my John Bowen. I also believe that he was reenlisted back into the 8th for the 3 year stint. The part I am questioning is the transfer to Hopkins Artillery, I just feel that is another John Bowen and yes he was discharged as disabled. I will be ordering the documents as soon as I get my bearings aroud the Archive site.
