James English was a native of the parish of Donohill Co. Tipperary; captured at Fort Donelson in 1862 and sent to Camp Douglas Illinois. His brother Thomas English of Valparaiso, Porter County Indiana posted an 'Information sought' advertisment in the Boston Pilot in 1865.
