Hello,

I just recently discovered my great grandfather served in company c of the 170th NY heavy artillery. I googled it and found this thread and since it's so old, I was wondering if anyone is out there still...researching this question. I would be interested if there are any old photos, other than the few on line I've seen...stories, etc.

Thanks for any help,
Nancy Sullivan

His brother Thomas English of Valparaiso, Porter County Indiana posted an 'Information sought' advertisment in the Boston Pilot in 1865.
Greatful for any information on what may have happened to James English

Am seeking information on Major Michael Tracey and Private Patrick Lacey both served with the 13th Louisiana Infantry. Both men were from Tipperary and may have known each other prior to emigrating. Tracey lost his right leg at Murfreesboro in 1963 and Lacey was with him in Winchester when he was hospitalised, acting as his nurse. Lacey transferred to the artillery afterwards and later to the CS navy. Any information on what happened these men after the war gratefully received.

Hi Jim

Sorry about the delay replying, I was waiting to get home to Ireland to look at some (very sketchy) material gathered by my uncle (since deceased). There are no dates in the tree he sketched but some of the names might ring a a bell for you:

Pat O Regan + Cleary have child Tim O Regan. Tim marries Alice Raleigh daughter of a Raleigh and a Mulcahy (Mulcahy remarries a Coffee and they have 4 sons).

Tim O Regan and Alice Raleigh have children: Kate who marries an O Sullivan and have no children; 2 other children go to the USA. The tree is a little confusing here but it seem that Tom who marries Minnie O Connell is also a member of this family who include a sister that marries an O Donnell and goes to USA. This O Donnell couple are indicated as having 3 children: William; and perhaps a nun; and illegible.

I can't find a connection to the O Brien & O Regan couple you mention though the dates are aligned with the generations I am researching. Similarly I have a Thomas Hennessy m Catherine Leahy on 9 Feb 1864 and lived in Killeen Kilfinane. Their descendents are listed in the 1901 census.

best regards

Eoin

Hi Jim

I've a Tom O Regan 1875-1959 married Minnie O Connell 1874-1960. They had children (including but not limited to!) Jack 1912-1987, and Alice 1914 who I last met about 3/4 years ago. To my knowledge she still lives down the hill in Stookeens toward my own research interest the Leahy's in Tiermor. Minnie O Connell is my Grand Aunt.

I have O Brien in my direct tree and Hennessy in a side branch, happy to exchange leads.

regards

Eoin

At least one son David Roche b abt 1825 probably Limerick but possibly Kerry. Family moved to Castleisland area Co Kerry at some point. Were there late 1840's to early 1860's at least. David m Margaret Walsh in Loughrea, Galway in 1861 they emigrated to New South Wales Australia 1863. Could there be any connection with your Regan family?

Julie

For $3.00 you can order the New York State military records for Daniel Sullivan, who was in Co. A, 5th Reg. NY Heavy Artillery. Go to:

http://iarchives.nysed.gov/CivilWarWeb/search.jsp

He's listed, and you can easily print out and order his records. I don't know how extensive they are.

Daniel received a Civil War pension, as did his widow later (as per the Civil War pension index card). You can order his pension records through NARA, using Form NATF 85.

http://archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/pre-ww...

This will cost $75.00 for the complete packet, which will include up to 100 pages. It should include important information and answers for you.
The pension records for my great-great-grandfather who died at Port Hudson,La. were extensive. Information about his death, widow and children was tremendous, and I'd never have found out most of it anywhere else.

Good luck in your searches.

There are only 2 Dominick Colgans of age to serve in the 1860 Brooklyn Census. There are 2 Dominick Colgans listed in service from Brooklyn.

Dominick Colgan 14th/84th NY (claimed to be the son of Dominick Colgan Sr. proprietor of Eagle Hotel, Brooklyn)
and
Dominick Colgan 164th NY

Is there anyway to find various hospital records in Washington DC? I was unable to find him on any 1860 federal census so far.

George Henry Higginson Daly was living in New York in 1850 with his mother, Eliza Daly and siblings. In 1860 she and the younger children were still in New York and in 1869 George married Deborah Hull in Monroe County, New York. The lived in Erie and Niagara counties as well during the next 10 years. Deborah died in 1880.
Donlon / Missouri Cavalry Soldier

I am researching Michael DONLON of the 10th Missouri Cavalry (Union) He mustered in April 1864, and was mustered out of 2nd MO CAV. Co, M in Sept. 1865
I am trying to place Michael anywhere in Missouri in 1864 or before. He is listed as being aged 24 in 1864, but his death certificate in 1889 (NYC) lists him aged 40. This puts his birth year at either 1840 ,or 1849. He was born in Ireland and his father was Michael Donlon and Mother was Kate Donlon. He is in NYC after 1870. Anyone with resources to search for any listings of this Donlon family from 1859 -1869 anywhere in Missouri please contact me. I am interested in learning where in the state he might have lived, and have found no leads to date. His enlistment papers were done in St. Louis where his occupation was Laborer. He was substitute for Charles Bayha Esq. of St. Louis City. His Military Records can be viewed at http://new.photos.yahoo.com/donlon6465/
E-mail donlon6465@yahoo.com or gloriamozas@aol.com

My gg-grandfather James Collins (born 1832 in Galway, Ireland) was a Sergeant Major with the 63rd NY Volunteers who fought with the Second Corps, Army of the Potomac as part of the Irish Brigade. After volunteering in 8/1861 and surviving the entire war James was wounded and captured at the Battle of Jerusalem Road at the Second Battle of Peterburg. He was sent to Libby Prison in Richmond where he died on either 7/1/1864 or 8/1/1864 (based on separate sources). His pension record has him buried at Mt. Arlington. He is not at Arlington National Cemetery nor is he at Mt. Arlington, NJ Cemetery. Folks have suggested that he might be at one of the five large Civil War cemeteries around Richmond but I do not know which ones they mean. Can anyone tell me the names of these cemeteries. His wife and kids never knew where he was buried.

Hi Joan,
I found him on the Missouri State Archives database as Patrick Keaugh (sic). If you run a search for him at
http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/soldiers/
you can view his record of service card. He did survive the war.
Missouri's archives will have at least some of his military records. The US National Archives will have a complied record and his pension record as well. A description with instructions on how to order copies are at:
http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/
http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/pr...
Here's a capsule history of the 7th:
http://www.civilwararchive.com/Unreghst/unmoinf2.htm#14
There's also a reenactment unit with quite a bit of info.

Patrick was a Corporal with Co A, 7th Mo Vols (Infantry) and came from the parish of New Inn in Co. Tipperary. As I live in Ireland could somebody point me in the right direction as to where I might be able to find further information on Patrick - whether he survived the war etc. and the regiment of which he was part of. I know he was still alive in 1863 and was posted at Vicksburg Mississippi. Many thanks.
