George McIntire

Seeking information on George McIntire b.1820 or 1823. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1833 or 1836. We believe that he married and lived around Cairo IL until Civil War. Family history states that he helped kill his squad's sadistic officer (Union soldier) and fled to N. Texas and the Oklahoma territory leaving his IL family behind. He married a woman believed to be Cherokee, possibly named Sallie (or Alice) Mae Pawburn (or Palmer) b. 1855. At some point he was a stage coach keeper in Tucumcari, NM. George and his 2nd wife's children: Thomas (1877-1929?), Euwell (1878-1909), Robert (1885-1934), William (1890-1947), Bessie (1894-196?), and Bonnie 1895/1895. They are believed to owned land in or around Granite, OK. He may have been a stone mason there. George died in 1903 and his wife died in 1895. He and his son, Thomas, are supposed to be buried side by side in a cemetary between Granite and Lone Wolf OK. William may have been raised partly by an Indian tribe and by the Collins of Lone Wolf, OK. If you have know any thing about George's siblings, parents, or his IL family or any information on his Native American wife, please contact me: awesome-mnms@live.com

Alvin Hodge is my husband uncle. On August 9. 1861. at the age of 18yrs, Alvin enlisted as a private in Company H, 1st Regiment, Creek Mounted Volunteers, c.s.a. at the Creek Agency.
Alvin Hodge had a reputation of being a quiet, law-abiding citizen. He was Tulsa's frist tax collector, every white man living in Indian Territory was required to paya tax of one dollor a month for the privilege of working in the Creek Nation. There was also a monthly school tax of one dollor and fifty cents. Just a little History on the Creek Indian Nation.

Pat Hodge

A Boy Scout Troop 818 member and Eagle Scout candidate is working on his Eagle Project. So far over 200 veterans have been identified. For several, state of service is needed.

if you have a relative who fought in the Civil war and is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater and would like to make sure he is included in the list of names on the monument, contact me at the address below.
Delaware in Civil War

Looking for information on Delaware (from Kansas or Indian Territory) who served with the Confederacy. Amongst my ggrandmother's papers, I recently discovered a family history written by my ggrandfather, Wm. Earle PARKHURST in 1959. Earle's mother, Harriet "Bright Star" GIESY was born 1869 on the Spring River in IT. In his history he wrote the following concerning the Civil War:

"They [wedding party] were staying at the home of my mother's uncle, Henry GIESEY, who was also Legal Guardian to my mother, then Hattie GIESEY, an orphan. Both the Uncle and my mother's cousin Jeffery GIESEY, along with my mother had all recently been removed from the Indian Rolls of the Cherokee Nation, although they were Delawares, and merely attached to them for a matter of convenience because there were so few of them. Their removal came on account of dis-satisfaction because [they] had sided openly with the South during the war. First they were removed from the Indian rolls and then bodily removed from the reservation for this offence. Later the uncle [Henry GIESY] and his son, Jeffery GIESY, accepted postions with Robert E. Lee, then at Jefferson College, later Jefferson Lee at Lexington Virginia, where the latter made quite a name for himself."

If anyone has any information that might shed further light on this incident, I would appreciate hearing from them.

Thanks.

My grgrgrandpappy lived on Indian Nation Border, Washington CO, AR in Evansville . He was non Indian m to Mary Jane Froshour/Freshour-Family lore says he served in CW & was killed on the way home by bushwhackers. I found this statement also on back of family photo. Found an index card in Conf Hist Place. Does anyone know where any other records kept on this unit-also called 2nd Cherokee Mounted Rifles? The card shows him enlisted in Evansville, AR by J.M. Bryan & last paid by Major J.L. Gore. To my knowledge he was the only H.F (Henry Francis )Huffman in Evansville at that time. I find it curious that he joined this particular unit if this was an Indian unit. Any ideas or places to look?
Looking for others who are researching Westley Dennis(son of Peter & Arly Dennis & father of Peter DennisII) or his brother in law, John Moore(also spelled More), or John's brothers David Moore and Alcott Moore(spelled many ways ...Olcott, Alcutt, etc.) All served under Watie during Civil War. Moore's lived around Honey Creek, Dennis lived around present day Jay. After the war, Alcott lived in Vinita until 1884, the year he died of pneumonia& the year his brother John was killed at Chouteau.Nothing known of David after the war.All are Cherokee. John's uncle Elijah Moore was a "lieutenant" to John Watie during the Treaty Party's inhabitance of old Fort Wayne, later dubbed Fort Watie.

Chickasaw Battalion

I'm seeking any information about Shecoe's Chickasaw Mounted Volunteers.
Peter Mondier enlisted in Capt James D. Woods 16th Regiment Texas cavalry on Feb 22, 1862 in Grayson County, Texas for a period of one year. He was mustered in on March 10, 1862 in Collin County, Texas. This company subsequently become company "C" 16th Regiment Texas Cavalry. The 16th was organized March 10, 1862 and re-organized April 16, 1862. The regiment was dismounted by Special Order. He (Peter) was mustered out on July 28, 1863.
Peter enlisted again at Ft. Washita on August 8, 1863 by Capt. Randolph. He was a Private in Company "A" Shecoe's Chickasaw Mounted Volunteers. It appears that the Chickasaw Battalion was a re-organization of the 1st Battalion Chickasaw.
Any help or suggestions with this outfit would be greatly appreciated.
I have not found any books which follow the movement of this company.
Any photos of these Cherokee regiments? Before 1931 George relayed Civil War stories Mr. Carroll who published them in the Vinita Chiefton. I have found only 1 article.

In one database Civil War Muster Rolls, there is George Borland in Company H of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Watie's outfit), later reorganized in the 2nd Regular Cherokee Mounted Rifles in Arkansas; he was a corporal. The information is in box #000818, Extraction 0003, Record # 00001578 in archives. Does anyone have information about this George Borland? Also interested in any Wrights involved in the 2nd Cherokee group; my g-grandfather, G. W. H. Wright, wrote that he was a company led by Captain Hugh Tinnin (from NW Arkansas) in the 2nd Indian Brigade, but his name is not on any muster rolls, but he also had older brothers--John E. Wright, James S. Wright, William T. Wright and Thomas J. Wright along with several Wright cousins who could have been in any of the Indian/white outfits. The Wrights were in NW Arkansas; G. W. H. had a story of having to dress like a woman to elude the Federal troops in Benton Co. Appreciate any leads on the surnames.

Fisher as recorded in the Civil War muster list for Shecoe's Chickasaw Mounted Volunteers, formed in October, 1864 by a reorganization of the 1st Battalion Chickasaw Cavalry (Mounted Volunteers).

We think he may be our ancestor William Dooley Fisher. It is terrible for an Oklahoma historian to be so far from home. Anyway, I was surfing the net and found your site. It was like old home week,

I am trying to find information on John SPEARS, not to be confused with the Texan John Nelson SPEARS. He is listed listed as the Capt. of Co. K, Cherokee Mounted Rifles. The John SPEARS I am interested in was suppose to have lived around old Ft. Wayne for a time.. I am having trouble even finding information about old Ft. Wayne. Apparently, there were two Ft, Waynes. I have searched through the Chronicles of Oklahoma (those that I have) and have come up with nothing. Could you help me?

Angie

I am desperately searching for a Mr. Watkins. He had died as a Confederate in the Civil War. His spouse Mr. Watkins had died later in the same War. They had my g.g. grandmother Mary Agnes Watkins who married a Jones. Mary's nickname was Lizzie for some reason. Her brothers were John and Walley Watkins who were supposedly residing in McCurtain Co., Ok. in later years. After Mrs. Watkins was killed with one of her children in her arms, as the other three children were in hiding. John, Walley and Mary were sent to a Texas Orphanage. The Orphanage had later burned down and records were lost. Mr. and Mrs. Watkins supposedly resided in Texas before the Civil War broke out. Also Mrs. Watkins was supposedly full-blood Cherokee. Need help with this. Our family has been looking for any leads to Mr. and Mrs. Watkins. Please "E" Mail me if you have any leads for me...
