Katy,
My gr-gandfather, Charles F. Tharp, was sort of from Kansas. He was born in Jackson County, Missouri. In 1860 he was living in Sugar Creek Township, Miami County, KS, the post office for which was in
West Point, Bates County, Missouri. After the war, he was married in West Point but it is not certain that that was where he lived. He may have lived in Sugar Creek, but is not on subsequent censuses. His wife had brothers living in Linn County, KS, whose post office was in
Merwin, Bates County. I have his pension file. It is 104 pages so I can't send it all. But, if you wish I can transcribe some pages and send a list of people whose names appear in the file.
