I am seeking information on Jarvis Goodman Oldham, who went by Goodman Oldham, his father's name. He served as a private in the 1st Northeast Regiment, Company K, of the Missouri Calvary in the Civil War.

Family records have indicated that he died in Chariton County, Missouri in 1862, but I recently found his name in the Union Provost Marshal's papers listed in the Missouri State Archives Digital Heritage that seem to indicate that he was under scrutiny by Union authorities in 1863.

I would appreciate any information on when, where or how he died or any other information anyone might have on his Civil War record.

David S. MOORE - Confederate or Union

We have an ancestor, David S. Moore, whom we believe served in the Civil War. The 1860 Census shows our David S. Moore living at Cole Bank, Cooper, MO. The Civil War ticket says he served in Co. F, 2nd Regt Cav., enlisting at Macon MO on Feb 16. 1862, mustered in at Sturgeon MO on October 21, 1862, and discharged out January 1863 with disability at Camp Annie. What we would like to clarify is, did he serve on the Union or on the Confederate side of the War? The ticket doesn't say. We are also wondering where and what was Camp Annie? We know that he did survive and moved over to the Warsaw area with this family. Is there anyone knowledgeable to help us sort this out? Thanks for any help.

I am looking for information in a the 1st Missouri Regiment, Company A. From my research they would have been at the end of the war under the comand of Lt. General Richard Taylor. He was the command of the administrative entity called the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana. They would have fought in the Mobile, AL battle at the end of the war and surrendered in Alabama. My ancestor, John G. Trosper, shows up in a pension record in Pickens County, Al. I believe he was a Confederate because of his pension record showing up at the state level and not the national level. It is my belief that after the was he settled on the Alabama/Mississippi line instead of returning home. Seeking a regiment roster or anything of the sort.

Francis John Wyruck, 1856-1865, Vernon and Cedar Co.'s

Francis got himself in trouble during the Civil War by being the leader of a gang in Vernon and Cedar Counties. this should have been quite the talk of the day, when people weren't discussing the war itself or the scarcity and price of goods.
can anyone tell me if there is information regarding Francis and his gang?
some of his gang members were
Jefferson Moore (his brother-in-law),
Miron Carpenter who was murdered in Kansas after the war, Jeff Denton,
Joe Youree,
Thomas Whiteside who was captured at Beals line house near Ft. Scott, KS by Rebel bushwackers and shot to death by "Pony" Hill who was one of Francis' men, ("Pony" died a drunkered),
Bob Cain/Kane whose gun was left behind at one of the murder scenes,
and
Jim Millender, a boy at the time.

I have information on Francis from "The History of Vernon Co." and wonder if he is also in "The History of Cedar Co."? I also have a copy of an unpublished story regarding the Moores and to some effect, Francis written by his neighbor, Robert Lancaster. I'm sure there must be more than this, though.

thank you
His friend and later brother-in-law, Jacob Sargent, may have also served in this same unit. Another great grandfather, Lewis Piper, also served in the war. Does anyone have info/photos about this unit from Mo??? Jacob was born in VA but died (in 1892) and is buried in Mo. Nothing marks his grave that gives anyone the indication that her was a Civil War soldier. I have copies of his military papers though.

MISSOURI STATE MILITIA,
Salem, Mo., July 22, 1864.

SIR: I just returned from down in Shannon County. I started Monday night with sixty men to capture some bushwhackers reported to be on Rock Creek, about sixty- five miles from Salem, or at what is known as the Hay Hollow, in the southeast corner of Shannon County, where they were herding their stolen horses. I traveled all night Monday night. Tuesday I got to the place abut 2 o'clock, but they had left an few days previous with their stock. They left some eight young horses which they could not get off with, which we brought in. They were stolen from Union men in this county, which I gave to them. I then camped and scouted around there until morning. Found no rebels, but plenty of signs.
I am researching Michael DONLON of the 10th Missouri Cavalry (Union) He mustered in April 1864, and was mustered out of 2nd MO CAV. Co, M in Sept. 1865
I am trying to place Michael anywhere in Missouri in 1864 or before. He is listed as being aged 24 in 1864, but his death certificate in 1889 (NYC) lists him aged 40. This puts his birth year at either 1840 ,or 1849. He was born in Ireland and his father was Michael Donlon and Mother was Kate Donlon. He is in NYC after 1870. Anyone with resources to search for any listings of this Donlon family from 1859 -1869 anywhere in Missouri please contact me. I am interested in learning where in the state he might have lived, and have found no leads to date. His enlistment papers were done in St. Louis where his occupation was Laborer. He was substitute for Charles Bayha Esq. of St. Louis City.

My ancestor is William Coleman. He was born in 1835 in Franklin County, Ohio to John A. and Maria Coleman of Hamburg Germany. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 in Kansas City. He fought in the battles of Wilson's Creek and Lexington, MO, and Corinth, MISS. He was taken prison near Vicksburg and sent to Alton, ILL. Later, he rejoined his unit and he marched to Mexico with General Shelby in 1864. William married Sarah Adams of Boone County MO in 1877 and he eventually settled down in Moniteau County, Missouri. Any help that anyone could offer would be most appreciated.

Sincerely,
Ric Jensen

I see him listed on the memorial in Bentonsport, Iowa. I think he must have died during the war. Any help greatly appreciated.

MO Civil War ancestors

I had several ancestors who served in the Civil War from MO. My great grandfather, Jacob Simon, served with "The Fourth Regiment Provisional Enrolled Militia Infantry".

I am fairly certain that he was Union Army but have not been able to locate the unit: Co D, 13th MO Infantry. I need dates served, rank etc so that I can order a copy of his pension file which I feel will reveal more info on this individual.

Would appreciate help on this!!!

I am looking for inforation on a soldier in the 4th US Reserve Corp. Missouri Infantry, Company K, where he was a private. I searched the NARA, and they had one small entry that was pretty useless in the entire file. The family story is that he served in the place of farmers that did not want to go to war, so he re-enlisted multiple times. Any ideas on where else I should look for information?

Philip/Jacob Zeigler/Sickler died 1864/65 Missouri? ?War related?

I know this is really vague but it has been handed down through the years that my GGreat grandfather died as a result of the Civil War, I don't know if he was a soldier or Civilian, I am not even sure where in Missouri he had lived, he was born between 1819or in Germany or Prussia, and died in 1864 leaving a widow and at least 5 small children, actually I believe one of the 5 was born after his death, he could have been a miner before the war. I think I may have found him on the 1860 Crawford County, Missouri Federal Census the dates seem to fit what I have for the family birth dates.
On this census he is listed as Jacob Sickler age 40, with Treaser Sickler age 35, female, Menar Sickler age 12, Joseph Sickler age 4, Philip Sickler age 2. and William was born in 1865
Can someone tell me where I can get information on whether or not he was in the Army when he died??
As you might have guessed I am relatively new to researching my tree.
I have search several sites but find nothing.

Webb Brothers, buried at Long Creek Cemetery, Dallas Co., TX...Union or CSA Veterans

I am researching the families buried at Long Creek Cemetery, Sunnyvale, Dallas County, Texas as part of the 150 Anniversary project.
While compiling a list of Veterans, I found two half brothers, sons of Henry H. Webb, John (born about 1834) and Jehu E. Webb (1843-1910), both born in Illinois and died in Texas. Both grave markers have only their names and Company K, 7 Missouri Infantry. I have not been able to determine whether they served in Union or Confederate Units. After a brief check of online sources, I thought I would post a query here to see if someone more knowable might be able to help me.

Soldiers from Illinois who served in St. Louis, MO regiments

I'm trying to identify Civil War soldiers from Monroe Co., IL who crossed the Mississippi River and served in St. Louis regiments. However, so far none of the MO CW rosters I've found on the internet list the soldier's residence, so I can't determine where he is from. Also, the rosters don't identify where the companies originate, they just have the Reg. No. & Co. letter, so I can't identify the St. Louis companies. I would gladly look at all companies, but this does me no good if the soldier's residence is not listed. I am a novice at Civil War research and ask for any and all suggestions.
The IL CW site on Rootsweb was a breeze to use - it lists all the artillery, cavalry and infantry regiments. When you click on the regiment or battery number, a list of companies appears which includes the county/counties from which the company originates. By checking all neighboring counties, I was able to identify a lot of soldiers from Monroe Co. who served in companies from other counties in IL. Many men from IL joined St. Louis companies and I would like to identify them for our genealogical society website and a Civil War soldier burial database we are creating. Because IL had no Confederate regiments, anyone favoring this cause went to Missouri and joined up, so I'd like to check both Union & Confederate. Can anyone give me the name of a website that would list the place of origin of the company and the residence of the soldier? Thanks for your help.

My great grandfather, Lawson Bess, was a member of the 12th Reg. MO State Militia Cavalry, Union Army, and was captured while on furlough. He was later paroled at Cairo, IL by signing on with the 5th Reg. MO, Infantry, Confederate Army. Was there a prison at Cairo, or was he just held there for that period of time? Are there any records of that camp? Thanks

I have a very old tin type of a soldier. The uniform he is wearing looks like one I found on the web( dolls) It is 2Mo Merrill's Horse. I don't know what that means but I believe he was probably an ancestor of mine. There is some writing on the back, scratched in probably with a knife, that is very hard to read. It has a hole punched in one corner as though to hang it from somethin. I was scanning some family pictures when I found it. Some of the pictures are from the late 1700s, early 1800s, going by the clothing. Thanks. G.Winters

Several years back while digging a hole in the back yard I came across what is probably the biggest discovery of my life. There was an authentic Civil War sword in my backyard in central Missouri. Took me quite some time to verify that it was infact from the Civil War, in which I am positive now that is. However, on the actual blade part there is what appears to be a name engraved near the handle. It reads "W. Clauberg Solingen"
For going on two years now I have exhaustively researched this name to no avail. I have no found even the tiniest clue leading me to other places. Nothin I have seen gives any indication of who this was (if it is even a person) or even nothing so simple as Union or Confederate. Recently I have began to wonder if this is truly a name on this sword. Perhaps it may be the company who manufactured it or the designers name. I'm truly out of ideas on what to do. Anyone who knows anything about this or anyone who could point me to look somewhere, I would appreciate any and all help I can get, for this is something I greatly desire to learn about.

Thanks

I am working on a manuscript about the May 1864 Battle of New Market. There was a group of Missouri cavalrymen who had been exchanged at City Point, VA, prior to this battle and had formed themselves into a semi-official 1st Missouri Cavalry, Company A, with Charles Woodson as captain. They fought in the Shenandoah Valley, sometimes attached to the 62nd VA Mounted Infantry, sometimes independently. I am looking for information regarding this unit, particularly regarding New Market.

Charlie Knight

Lazarus Wright in Civil War(Co B 16 th MO CAVALRY) died about 1863.

I got this information from a relative. I would like to see where they got the information from.
I would like to know where the company was formed in MO?
I am hoping Lazarus went back to his place of birth.
His family moves to Oregon in the early 1850's. His name was spelled wrong in the 1860 census so I didn't know his father Jackson Wright or Andrew Jackson Wright b.1820 in Indiana had a son b. in MO., from his first marriage. Lazarus is named after Jackson's brother,Lazarus Wright, who was born in Kentucky in 1810 and also takes his family to Oregon. I believe from Jackson's first marriage there were only two children but maybe three. Harriet, Lazarus and Mary. Mary could be his second wife's daughter but I'm not sure. I don't know Jackson's first wife's name. I thougth she was Elizabeth Matlock from MO., but that isn't right-her husband was born in MO., and others have shown me he isn't the right one. There are three Jackson Wright's in Douglas Co., Oregon at the time. I apologize for thinking they we're all the same person.
Please let me know where I can find more information from the above title subject.
Thank you for reading my post.
Sincerely,
Carol Wright
Peace to you and yours
