Kay,
Thanks for contacting me. Although I'm more into Civil War history than specific genealogy pursuits, I do have some additional information on Pvt. Thomas Benton Weatherington (my great-grandfather). My grandfather was his son, Henry Weatherington. Unfortunately, I am not presently near my files, but I would be glad to copy any materials that you might be interested in. I have his pension application from Tennessee and a widow's pension application from his second wife in addition to his military service records. I have a great-uncle whose wife has really done quite a bit of research on Benton and his family and I'll pass along the e-mail address when I get back to my files. I have a couple of photos of Benton and his second wife -- don't know if they're the same as the one you have or not. If not, I'd certainly be interested in obtaining a copy.
Both Benton's older brothers were killed during the war -- George was killed at Gettysburg on July 1st. John A. J. was killed at Chickasaw Bluffs (near Vicksburg) on Dec. 28th (or 29th), 1862. Somehow he ended up with the 31st Louisiana Infantry Regiment instead of the 2nd Miss as Benton and George were. John's widow filed a widow's pension application from Texas.
You probably already saw the posts regarding my "summary history" of the 2nd Miss. It can be downloaded if you are interested. I'll follow up by e-mail with additional information within a couple of days.
