Hi Jim, long time no chat.

I've resurrected my Sloan-Daugherty work. Please pardon me if you've already shared this by email...but I cannot find anything...

Earlier you ID'd Archibald D. as uncle of the 3 Sloan's; Wm John, Thomas & James.

Can you share the source of this? Is it something in records you have?

The Sloans' mother was a Daugherty - we know - but seeing something in black and white on Arch being her brother would be nice.

...don't we all want #1 surety levels? :)

Thanks, Jim.

PS: Anything you're able to share documentation-wise on these Sloans and Daugherty's, I'll continue to well document as source - and be thrilled to add to my page:

I understand, though, if it's material you can't share...

Rick.

Rick:

If my memory serveHe is in William J. Sloan's household in the 1880 census and is listed as his uncle.

Pennsylvania, Beaver County, Ohio Township
Roll T9-1097, Page 353A

I think I may have a death date of 1884 for him if I can confirm it is the same Archibald Daugherty. There was one who died at the Military Home for Civil War Vets in Milwaukee. Since he had no pension, there is no way to track him after 1880 and since he is missing in the 1890 Special Veterans' Census, this is likely. I can look up the Military Home records in DC the next time I am down. A number of the veterans of the 9th lived at these homes which were scattered around the nation. The largest group of 9th veterans lived in the home at Dayton, OH. The second largest group was at Milwaukee.

As for your previous question of James Washington Sloan -- this was a mistake and I found my source. Another researcher in Butler County misidentified a James Washington Sloan as being the same as James W. Sloan in the 9th Reserves. Since I found J.W. Sloan in the 1860 census and have confirmed that the Sloans all were brothers -- this James Washington Sloan is another individual altogether. I have since removed the middle name of Washington from my database.

We are clicking along.

Thanks Jim. You are correct.

Uncle Archibald, age 65 in 1880, is in the home of William J. Sloan - and the age matches his age when mustered in.

I've finally run into a descendant of his: we're both hot on finding his parents...and more info on the 3 Sloan boys father.

Rick.

PS re James "Washington".

Thanks for this, too.
I'll nix the middle name.

If you can find a death certificate for Nancy Agnes or one of her siblings that lists parents names, this may be possible. Unfortunately,
mandatory registration in PA did not occur until 1906 -- however, some localities issued death certificates on a regular basis in 1870. Pittsburgh is one of those cities, however, I do not believe Allegheny City did it until the early 1880s. Allegheny County followed suit in the 1890s if my memory serves me correctly -- but I cannot swear to it. I have no idea regarding Beaver County. A second avenue is to find a printed county history that has biographies. Since William John Sloan was a physician in East Liverpool, OH -- there may be a bio of him in one of the Columbiana County histories. If so, these generally listed when the family came to the US and the forebeares of the line. Good luck.

Thanks Jim.

I hope you don't mind me asking...re the email I sent you this morning: Can I use those records you sent me a couple years ago on my site? I've left them off per your wish but would love to include them.

I understand, though, if you're not ready yet.
