I am seeking information on the Civil War activities of John Nolan of Charleston, SC. John Nolan's place of birth was Ireland. I do not have birth or death dates. Parents names may have been John and Ann Nolan (also born in Ireland and of Charleston, SC). John Nolan was married to Mary Madden (also born in Ireland).
Family lore suggests that John Nolan was a cabinet maker and wheelwright until the Civil War; that he was a blockade runner of Charleston Harbor during the war; and that he died not long after the war. Most of the information that I have on John Nolan to date is received from the death certificate of his son William Farel Nolan (b. 1-19-1866 Charleston, SC; d. 7-20-39 Bessemer, Alabama) and from information received from William Farel Nolan's descendants.
Additional family information that may be helpful in identifying this individual is that John Nolan had a sister named Kathleen or Catherine who was married to A. H. Palmer. Both Kathleen (or Catherine) and A. H. Palmer were born in Ireland and died in Charleston, SC.
