James A BOYD, 10th Texas Cavalry, Company A
I’ve been trying to find additional information on my g-g-grandfather – James A BOYD – who served as a private in Co. A. Family lore has it that he died during the Civil War, and I suspect that is true, but I’ve been unable to document his death place/date.
I’ve searched these sources, and more:
(1) Compiled service records from the National Archives
(2) Hill College, Hillsboro, TX
(3) History of The Tenth Texas Cavalry (book), by Chuck Carlock (great book)
(4) Online cemeteries that I could find
(5) Confederate pension application of his wife (contained information on her 2nd husband only)
(6) Various internet searches with the name “Tenth/10th Texas Cavalry”
James A BOYD apparently served continuously from enlistment in Oct 1861 until his death after April 5, 1864, the last time he was shown on the muster rolls. He was not among the group that surrendered in May 1865. I’ve run out of ideas and sources to search for him.
Is anyone aware of other records (letters, newspapers, histories, etc) that may be available to help me determine what happened to James BOYD?
Thanks,
Ron Schell
