I'm looking for a Catherine Gammel born about 1837 in Tenn.to find out what family she belonged to. She married James G. Ford and is in Washington County AR. (which later becomes part of Benton County) in 1860 census. Any connection with yours? Glynda/TX

Hi Phil ~ Do you happen to know if/when CATHERINE GAMMEL, born ca. 1837 in TN., married and if so, was it definitely to JAMES G. FORD? I have no proof of this other than ORAL history because of 2 generations of orphans beginning in 1866. Catherine was a GAMMEL, Cowan, Bingham, Colville, or Walker. Lots of surnames and nothing to prove it yet. Thanks for the info on a reunion. We just sold our newspaper so hopefully I'll have more free time! Glynda in TX

My husband's mother Maria Sibern Gammell Shackelford had a mother named Sallie Edwards and father James Gammell that lived in Hampton, Va.. Is there a connection with the Gammells that you are related.
Did the Gammells come from Scotland? We are unable to find family history that shows when our Gammells came to the US and settled in Virginia. Would appreciate knowing of your history. With appreciation, Charlotte Shackelford, wife of William E. Shackelford. We reside in Williamsburg, Va 40 miles from Hampton. thank you. Charlotte

Charlotte ~
I don't go back that far on my Gammel family. I'm working on the ones who came from Tn. to NW Ar. and are there in 1850-60s. Sorry, but good luck in your research! GE/Tyler, TX

My GAMMILL/GAMMELL family came to AR from Bedford Co, TN soon after AR became a state (1836).
They are all descended from a James GAMMILL in NC, on Blue Creek, I believe. They are primarily in Ouachita and Dallas counties in AR, though there are probably 5 oher counties that have some of them, and one splinter became prominent as bankers in OK.
About 5 years ago I was contacted by a GAMEL in the Netherlands and his family had apparently originated in Austria, being first traced there in the early 1700s.
Best wishes,
Ed

I am looking for information on the Hannah Jane Davis Family. I want to know if anyone has a written history of the family and how they got to Ohio and moved west.
