I am looking for information concerning my Great, Great Grandfather, F.W. Mitchell. He is listed as serving in Co.D, 2nd Georgia Cavalry, but the U.S. Amnesty he signed (hanging on my wall) says he served in Co.A, 2nd Georgia Cavalry. I was told (by older relatives long ago) that he was taken prisoner, but I cannot confirm this.

Any information you can provide would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I have been to the National Archives and found cards tracing their captivities in different prison camps (Rock Island and Camp Morton). Would the Georgia Archives have anything that the National Archives wouldn't have? I can't find much information on the 2nd Regt Ga Cav on the web. Can anyone direct me? Thanks.
