My Great Grandfather, Thomas Terry Mays,a private from Company E of the 6th Virginia Cavalry Regiment was captured on July 3, 1863, with gunshot wounds on the right side and was paroled -- sent home-- on August 24, 1863, but admitted to a Richmond hospital for additional treatment of the wounds he received at Gettysburg from Dec 2-16, 1863 before he returned to his unit where he served until he was wounded again at Winchester, hospitalized briefly in Lynchburg in Sept 1864 , and then served until the Surrender at Appomatox, mustered out of service on April 9, 1865.
