Death notice from a Washington, DC newspaper published on Sunday, 6/9/1907:

"Veteran's Body Unclaimed"
"Remains of 'Louisiana Tiger,' who inhaled gas, still at Morgue"

The body of Arthur Ludewitzhe, a Confederate veteran, lies at the morgue, still unclaimed. Ludewitzhe died Wednesday from the effects of inhaling illuminating gas in his room at the Carolina Hotel, 472 Pennsylvania avenue northwest.

The man, who was a member of the famous Louisiana Tiger Regiment during the war, had business cards in his possession bearing his name and address, 9 St. Peter St., New Orleans. He was a chiropodist.

The local authorities communicated with the police of New Orleans, but they replied that no such man was known there, and that there was no such address as the one given. It was said at the time of his death that the man had relatives in Baltimore, but as no names or addresses were given, it has been impossible to find out whether this is true.

Unless the body is claimed by tomorrow, arrangements will be made for the funeral, which will probably be taken charge of by the Confederate organizations of the city. If not, the money found in the dead man's possession will be sufficient to defray the expenses of burial, and save the body from the potter's field.
