Classification: Query
Surnames: Tully, O'Rourke
According to my husband's aunt who did some research on their Tully ancestors in New Orleans, our John Tully received the Cross of Honor from Civil War from the United Daughters of the Confederacy to the U.C.V. In checking the "Civil War Soldiers and Sailor" website, I found Tully, John; Confederate Infantry; 10th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry - possibility. This was the only John Tully to receive this medal in Louisiana. A John Tolley is listed in Co. D, 10th Louisiana Infantry (from Orleans Parish).

Also found a John Tully in Co H, 18th Louisiana Infantry, Confederate Army Tully, John (also on rolls as Talley, John or Tulley), Pvt. 1st Sergt. Co. H, 18th La. Inf. En. New Orleans, La., Nov. 19, 1861. Present on Rolls to Feb., 1862. Roll May and June, 1862, Present, detailed as Co. Cook, June 28, 1862. Rolls from July, 1862, to June, 1863, Present. Roll July and Aug., 1863, Present, promoted from 3rd Corpl. to 1st Sergt., Aug. 1, 1863. Also on Rolls of Co. E, Cons. 18th Regt. and Yellow Jacket Battn. La. Inf., as Tulley, Jno., Pvt. Roll Jan. and Feb., 1864, Present. Roll of Prisoners of War of detachments of different commands, C. S. A., Paroled Alexandria, La., June 7, 1865. Res. New Orleans, La. M378 roll 29

A third John Tully is listed in Co. M, Creek Mounted Volunteers from Louisiana. Number M378 roll 29

The John Tully we are researching married Ann Riley/Reilly, probably after the Civil War ended. This is the family in the 1880 census for New Orleans, Orleans, Louisianna:

John Tully Self M Male W 38 IRE Laborer IRE IRE
Ann Tully Wife M Female W 30 IRE Keeping House IRE IRE
Mary Tully Dau S Female W 11 La At School IRE IRE
John E. TULLY Son S Male W 10 La At School IRE IRE
Paul Tully Son S Male W 7 La At School IRE IRE
Loretta Tully Dau S Female W 1 La IRE IRE

According to family records, they also had a son, Joseph, who was born in Missouri in 1871. He is not listed with the family here.

According to family records but not yet verified, the Tully family was from Co. Cavan in Ireland.

Have you discovered anything on your John Tully since you posted your original message?

Ann
