There are at least three <?> books which include this regiment...one by Tunnard, and I think another one, but I don't have either book. You might find them at Amazon?

A wonderful book which I just got about a month ago, "Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units, 1861-1865, by Arthur W. Bergeron, Jr. This book includes extensive bibliography sources. (I got mine at Amazon, and I'm SO glad I got it!)

My ancestor was Benjamin Franklin ALLEIN (1827-1898) who was a Private in the 3rd Regiment Louisiana Infantry, Company H. He appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War of furloughed and detailed men, Confederate States Army, commanded by (blank), surrendered at New Orleans, LA, by General E.K. Smith, C.S.A., to Maj.Gen. E.R.S. Canby, U.S.A., May 26, 1865, and paroled at Shreveport, LA, June 7, 1865. Roll dated Shreveport, LA June 7, 1865. (this is the record I obtained from NARA.)

Benjamin F. Allein was from Church Hill, Jefferson County, Mississippi and moved to Madison Parish, Louisiana prior to the war. After the war, he returned to Church Hill where he lived out his life and where he is buried in the Christ Episcopal Church graveyard at Church Hill.

Welcome to 3rd Infantry Regiment at Rootsweb Message Boards. This board is for those researching the 3rd Regiment Louisiana Infantry during the American Civil War. This is an informal, no flame/no spam group, focusing on genealogy and the history of this civil war unit. Please feel free to post your ancestor's name and information, queries, sources, anecdotes, family stories, the culture of the times, or other information which may be of interest to the group. I created this board as a means of finding others who are researching this unit so that research can be shared and hopefully a better glimpse of the soldiers and their families, their daily lives, and the activities of the 3rd Infantry can be gained. No post is too trivial as long as it relates to the soldiers or the history of this military unit. I have also created a corresponding message board at Yahoo Groups at:
