12th Regiment ME Infantry, Hart's Island

I have a copy of a service record for someone who was in the 12th Regiment, Company H. It indicates he was confined to Hart's Island. He was released, and given an Honorable Discharge and pension.

This confuses me. Were Union soldiers confined there as well? Nothing in my leads me to believe this is the case. If he (and apparently 20 others of the same regiment) did something of a criminal nature that would have them confined by their own side, why would they be released with an Honorable Discharge?

Anyone have any info that can help me? Anyone know of a roster of prosoners held at Hart's Island?

First Maine Heavy Artillery--looking for roster and/or muster records for Comp K

Is there anyone out there who can do a lookup for me? I am looking for roster and muster records for the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery Company K. I have found Thomas Kennedy, Jotham J Kennedy and Daniel Kennedy listed on the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors website, all in Company K. My gg grandfather was Thomas Kennedy, and in 1860 census his nephew Jotham Kennedy was living with him in Portland ME. Daniel Kennedy was either another nephew, or Thomas' brother. I would like to find records that show the ages of these individuals when they enlisted so that I can ascertain that they were indeed my family members.

I noticed that there is a CD-Rom of an out of print book on the First Maine Heavy Artillery, but I have a Macintosh Computer, and it was not clear whether the CD would work on a Mac

Any help greatly appreciated.
