George S Reed enlisted in Company I, 11th Ohio Cavalry on 27 February 1864 as a Private. He had previously served in Company K, 12th Ohio Infantry (20 July 1861 - 28 December 1862). He had been Wounded at Antietam and was discharged with Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. The 11th Ohio Cavalry served along the Overland Trail in the Dakota Territory from 1862 to 1866 guarding telegraph asn Stage stations as well as garrioning several military posts. George S Reed was Prooted 1st Sergeant on30 June 1864 and 2nd Lieutenant on 30 Octoer 1865. He was Mustered Out on 14 July 1866.

Company I, 11th Ohio Cavalry was organized in June 1864 and was deployed as follows:

Fort Laramie, Dakota Territory jun 64 - Jun 65
Horse Creek Station Jul-Aug 65
Three Crossings Station Sep 65 - Feb 66
Deer Creek Station Mar 66 - Apr 66

George S Reed was living in St Louis Missouri in 1880-1890. He filed for a pension 18 August 1879 and his widow, Ida M Reed filed on 26 Nov 1918.
