John Gewars - Civil War Veteran

I am trying to acquire any information on John Gewars, an Australian born Civil War veteran. Any information on his life anywhere, his family, descendants and especially where he is buried. All I have is John Gewars was born in Australia. His residence was not listed, but he enlisted as a Private at 34 years of age on 9/4/1861, was mustered into "D" Co. Ohio 14rh Infantry the same day; and was mustered out on 7/11/1865. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I want to add him to the Memorial Website www.acwv.info.
