Hello,
I'm starting this thread as a place where we can list our ancestors who were in the 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

My ancestor was Jesse M. Lee, 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. His record from N.A.R.A. shows he enlisted as a Private on 31 August 1861 at the age of 44; died of disease on 22 December 1863 in Camp Dennison, Ohio. Jesse was buried at Woodhill Cemetery in Franklin, Warren County Ohio.

Jesse M. Lee was married to Catharine Floyd of Warren County (my ggg grandparents.) One of their children was Prudence Lee, who married Maximo Emley of Franklin, Warren County, Ohio (my great-great grandparents.) Their child was Wilbur John Emley, my great-grandfather who was born in Franklin OH and eventually worked for the Pullman Company in Jersey City NJ and finally settled in Long Branch NJ. I never knew about Jesse Lee until I began doing genealogy. By then, my father, grandmother, etc. had died so there was nobody to tell me the family story. I don't have any photos of Jesse but a cousin kindly sent me a photo of his grave headstone which reads, "J.M. Lee, Co. B, 2nd Ohio Inf."

Peggy Dyas
Researching: LEE, FLOYD, CHAMBERLIN, EMLEY in Warren Co.
Hello,
I'm starting this thread as a place where we can list various sources, web sites, mailing lists, books, etc. for the 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Please feel free to add any resources you know of, to this thread. Here are a few that I know of:

http://www.history-sites.com

(web site owned by Jim Martin)

http://www.rootsweb.com

(this Message Board, and also the corresponding regular Mailing List at Rootsweb.
Welcome!

Hello,
Welcome to 2nd Volunteer Infantry Regiment at Rootsweb Message Boards. This board is for those researching the 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. This is an informal, no flame/no spam group, focusing on genealogy and the history of this civil war unit. Please feel free to post your ancestor's name and information, queries, sources, anecdotes, family stories, the culture of the times, or other information which may be of interest to the group. I created this board as a means of finding others who are researching this unit so that research can be shared and hopefully a better glimpse of the soldiers and their families, their daily lives, and the activities of the 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry can be gained. No post is too trivial as long as it relates to the soldiers or the history of this military unit. I have also created a corresponding message board at Yahoo Groups at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/2ndRegimentOhioInfantry

I have also created a regular Mailing List at Rootsweb, OH-2NDINF, in the Civil War category. To summarize, the three new groups are at: Rootsweb Mailing Lists, Rootsweb Message Boards, and Yahoo Groups...each of them for the 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

Peggy Dyas
Board Administrator
