I am wondering if it is possible to obtain records from a VA Hospital? I have a collateral relative who died at the VA hospital in Clark County, Washington. He died some years ago, so even if it is possible to obtain records, they may no longer be available.

TIA for any thoughts.

I'm not sure but I think one of my ancestors lied on a civil war pension file. I'm almost positive her husband had already been married once before he married her. Maybe he just didn't tell her about the previous marriage. But if he did and she put down that he had never been previously married, what would have been the benefits of this? Would she have had to share some of the pension money with his first wife?

American Citizens in Prsion-Carthagena-1806

In 1806 a ship called the Leander was captured by two Spanish armed vessels. There was taken 47 American. These men would end up in a Carthagena prison, two years later ( 1808 ) with the help of a British Officer a petition was sent to the United States Congress asking for help for their release, by the time the petition-report was written their number was down to 36, because of deaths and escapes. Although we ( Amreicans ) were having trouble with the British at this time, this Officer felt it was his duty to help as some of the Americans were born British subjects and it was his duty to help all British subjects.

Note. As the report is to long to put here I will only list the 36 names. If however you see a name that's family and would like the report ( Three pagers ) I will sent you a copy by URL address. The report tells how they started out and how they ended up in prsion.

Note. The americans that were born British well have a star beside their name.

Note.
photo identification - NY state militia?

Can anyone help me identify this military unit? I believe the photo was taken before 1911. The person I know in the photo - George Chatraw - indicated on his WWI registration in New York that he had served in the state militia. He was born in 1886, so I suspect the photo is somewhere between 1904 and 1910.

Can anyone please tell me what it takes to get records for Uncles and GGrandparents. I am not a direct child but a grandchild and niece. It seems that the archives has eluded to let individuals in my case case get some kind of record for genealogy. And what hinders me more is that I am an adopted child but found biological family and am tracking that military data too. So what on earth is a person to do? I had to pay for my bio grandfather's records a few years back thru a company who had access to the records. They were worth the money but I think that being a grandchild of a deceased person I should still have some kind of access. Any thoughts on this
I'm looking for info on a James "Jimmie" Bishop. All my mother could tell me was that James died when she was a young child, from a plane crash. James, when he died, died from an plane accident, possibly in Texas, 1940-1950. He was in a training exercise. I'm not sure which branch of military he was in. All I have birth wise on James was that he was b. to a Charles Thomas Bishop and Mable M. in 1922, probably in Chicago, Illinois. When James joined the military, his mother Mable was remarried to a Charles Hardy. James also had a sister Lois. Any help would be appreciated.
How to find military history if person died in 1943?

I am looking for information regarding my husband's grandfather who died in 1943 at the Hines Veteran's hospital near Chicago, IL. My husband's father did not remember much about his father because he died young. We have a picture of him in what looks like a military uniform. Does not appear that we can get a copy of the Death certificate if not a direct decendant without a letter from an "agency" needing the death certificate. How do you go about finding military history in this situation? I have checked ancestry.com for any draft or war documents, etc. We are not even sure what branch of the military he was in.

Thanks,

Laura

Hi, I am looking for information regarding the early U.S. military life of William E. Burnet. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the 1st Infantry, Co. C in February 1857. By mid 1858 he was off in Indian Territory doing survey work. What about in between? I have the articles from the Chronicles of Oklahoma and other info but nothing from the missing time period. Any leads? Thanks JJ

I just found a brief case full of my great-grandfather's military records. He worked in the aviation physiology and biochemistry parts of the Army Air Corps during WWII. A lot of these papers are red-lettered RESTRICTED.

I was wondering if there was a time limit on restricted materials, and if so, what that time limit is. I am compiling information for my web site and would like to put these papers on it, unless there is a reason I shouldn't put them on there.

Born at Mare Island in 1800's

I just found out where in California my great-grandfather, James Buchanan Meagher, was born. He was born at Mare Island either in 1855 or 1860. Mare Island would have been a new military installation at that time. I don't have the names of my great-grandfather's parents but am trying to find out. The family story is that James's father was in the military in Ireland and was recruited there to come to join the US military during the Mexican War, to help protect California. Does anyone know if the military recorded births at military installations during this time in history? Where I would find information pertaining to those in the military who were assigned to Mare Island around 1855-1860?

I really don't think this is a US uniform, but I could be wrong. I found this in a memorial book for my husband's grandfather who was from Norway. This is NOT the grandfather in the picture, but we are pretty sure it's an ancestor. Any help with the uniform and what country/era it might be from? It might be hard to see in the picture, but in addition to the gun he has a sword on his left side.
Thanks,
Jodi

Thank you for any assistance. I hope that a listing will jog my memory. There is no family to ask this of.

Thank you

Barbara

Henry Peloquin (Henry Pelican - on his enlistment papers) was dishorably discharged from the US Army in Manilla, Philippines on 22 Sep 1900. The reason given was "SO 179." Does anyone know what that signifies or where I could find out? Henry was my half great-granduncle. He appears in the military in the 1900 census, but I've been unable to find him in any records following his discharge.

William Crosby, age 24 and born in Maryland, is listed as a Soldier in the 1870 census for Socorro County, N.M.

I am not related to this person, I'm just passing on this information. I was looking through this census for someone else and noticed the list of Soldier names, so this must have been a fort they were at.
The link for the webpage with this information is listed below.
Joyce

http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nm/socorro/census/1870/...

This is such a long shot - but family stores tell of our
ancestor belonging to an elite guard where they all
had to be over six feet tall (maybe even taller). He
was from Washington County, Kansas. Just desiring
more information about this elite guard - history, etc.
He belonged around 1916 or early 1917. Do not
know if this was a state or national unit. Do not have
any more information - not much worm on the hook.
Thanks for reading this - Penny

I am trying to find any information about the CMTCs or Citizens Military Traing Camps from the 1930s. I have a wonderful 8x10 photo of one group of young men from a CMTC believed to have been in Minnesota around 1931 or 1932. My Grandfather is in the photo and there are about 20 others identified - with 53 in-total pictured. I would love to be able to share this with others who may have ancestors in the photo, or with an organization dealing with historical images.

If you can direct me in any way, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks!

I am hoping someone can tell me how to obtain military records for someone who was stationed at the Ft. Leavenworth Military Reservation in Kansas. All I know is that, William Hall, born 1866 in TX, was listed on the 1900 Ft. Leavenworth Military Reservation census. Was this place also a prison? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Sarah

I hope someone can help me with this picture. I found it in my mothers things and it is the only war uniform picture I have. I believe it might be my great uncle Alex. All I know about him is that he died in France in 1918 during the war and that he was a corporal. There is writing indentations which I believe might be his name. If it is what I believe to be, than it may be the only picture I know of him. It also seems to be cut out from a bigger picture because of the styling of the cardboard it's on. I hope someone may know something about the uniform. Thanks for any help.

A couple of years ago I wrote to Missouri requesting my grandfather's WWI military records as he served in the Navy. Because I am not what they consider "next-of-kin", they wouldn't provide me with them. The only next-of-kin would have been my mother but she died in 2001. What can I do to get these records? Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

How do I determine if my ancestor served in 1910-1912?

Does anyone know how to go about obtaining service records if we're not sure the person did serve in the military? I've been lead to believe that my great-grandfather may have joined "the service" sometime in 1910-1912, but I have no idea what branch of the service this may have been or if he really did. Is there a way to find this out???

Thanks for your help.
