Hi and welcome to the Ancestry message board for Gold Star Mothers!
I have seen many posts for Gold Star Mothers under the various localities/cities where that specific GSM chapter is located, but being that many Gold Star moms travelled with other Gold Star Moms from all over the United States, I was hoping to bring everyone together into one place and help share whatever journals, stories and queries and announcements we may all have.
Please note that I am NOT a Gold Star Mother, nor am I a member of the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. I merely have an ancestor who was a Gold Star Mother. So please do not direct any specific Gold Star Mothers data questions to me as I do not have the resources at this time to help.
I am happy to share whatever recources I find, have helped me along the way.
If you have tried to contact your local chapter about an ancestor's file, and they are unable to help you, then you should know that the Library of Congress holds 6+ boxes of Gold Star Mothers files which contain paperwork, photos and other items. I have submitted my inquiry to the LOC and a staff member is searching the files for me. You can submit an inquiry by visiting the website for the Library of Congress and searching your ancestor's name in the card catalogs.
I have also found that some State and local libraries hold the archived files of some Gold Star Mothers. So try your local library also.
MY GOLD STAR MOTHER ANCESTOR:
I will post separately, a thread about my own great great grandmother, who was a Gold Star Mother and sadly became the 1st Gold Star Mother to die while on a pilgrimage to France in 1930. If you know your GSM ancestor travelled during the end of July or beginning of August 1930, please watch for my thread and help me find my own GSM ancestor's story.
