21st Infantry in Nebraska

I just discovered that a relative of mine Francis M. Durvin(he was the son of my great, great granduncle), enlisted in the 21st Infantry, Company C on 12/31/1884 and died of peritonitis on 12/11/1889 at Fort Sidney in Nebraska. His body was returned to Richmond, VA for burial at Oakwood Cemetery. I would like to know more about my ancestor and how he came to die of peritonitis? Does anyone have any information on the 21st Infantry during this period (1884-1889)? Any way to get more information on his death? I would appreciate any information.
