Need some information concerning this military unit. I found a Military Warrant awarding land to "Christian Papste" formerly a private in Captain Glenn's Company, fourteenth Regiment United States Infantry. The warrant states that Congress approved 11 Feb 1847 an act "to raise for a limited time an additional military force, and for other purposes."

Does anyone know what was the purpose of this unit? Who was the enemy in 1847? How would I go about finding the soldiers in this unit?

Christian Pabst, a Prussian immigrant, was 23 in the 1850 Carroll Parish census.

The land (now in Richland Parish) is described as the NW 1/4 of Section 36, Twp 18 N, Range 9E, roughly 160A. Christian and his wife Mary E. sold this land and an adjoining parcel to James J. Slade in 1860.(Carroll Parish Deed Book K:421) I had not known how he acquired this property until finding the military warrant on the Bureau of Land Management General Land Office records.
