I recently discovered that horses from the US were supplied for the Boar War. Most of them were shipped from New Orleans. My great grandfather supplied some of these horses. I believe they were sent on the ship Milwaukee on August 23, 1901. They were put on a train at Spokane Falls, Territory of Washington and the destination was Ranchester, Wyoming Territory. They must have been shipped from Ranchester to New Orleans. Does anyone know if there would be records in New Orleans about where the horses were held before they were shipped out?

I would like to know the location and staff, if possible for "The Smallpox Hospital operated by Union surgeons between 1864-1866 in New Orleans. Or where I could locate this information. The staff would have also tended the sick in the stockade on Ship Island, east of New Orleans and just south of Mississippi.

I believe the duty was of the New York 72nd, 2nd division, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Army Corps surgeon, but it seems that several of those regiments were regrouped, the 72nd, 73rd 74th, etc. So it is difficult to be specific.

Thank you

Ruth Schmidt lived in New Orleans sometime between Jan and Nov 1946, maybe in Navy military housing. Her husband Walter Schmidt was in the U.S.Naval Airforce. Ruth was 21 years old from Kansas City, Missouri and had a girl child about one year old. Ruth had a brief affair with a man named LaBelle, Laubel, Lobelle maybe John or James. Family history has him living in New Orleans but he could have been stationed there in the military. He visted Ruth in California in the 50's or 60's for a brief time. Ruth returned to Missouri before Dec 1946. She had a son in Dec 1946. She named him John James Schmidt. Ruth's husband divorced her in 1947. My line comes from John James and I would like to find John's biological father's history. I'm working on my family genealogy and it's incomplete without John James biological father. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time and consideration. Jen

I have posted a lengthy obituary of COL Smith on the Smith family message board which details his military career and service as a colonel in the CSA during the War between the States.
He was an organizer of the 24th Louisiana Volunteers, known as the Crescent Regiment and participated in the battle of Shiloh. He later served in the artillery and was in the battle of Port Hudson, where he was taken prisoner. After being exchanged a year later, he served in Richmond until the end of the war.

She said that he went off to war & never returned.
If anyone knows how I can find information that might tell me what happened to Ray , please let me know.
Desperately searching facts on the life and relations of my grandfather, basically a life-long resident of Orleans Parish. We knew him as Harry Anthony MEYERS - the official certified record of birth from New Orleans shows a Henry MEYERS (same parents) born the same date, with a 1 year discrepancy (1893/1894). No one has ever heard the name Henry. However, our Harry Anthony served in the Rainbow Division of WWI in France. He died in 1945 in a VA hospital in New Orleans, as a result of what would be called post traumatic stress complications, long delayed. No death certificate found. Website on Rainbow Division has been non-responsive to my inquiries. Don't know his military ID #, no SSN found either. Any suggestions on how to better search thru military channels, or find that death certificate, would be a great help. Personal knowledge of his family would be a godsend!
Period newspapers would give good information and there is a museum at Fort Polk in Vernon Parish, LA, which some of my students used for research into this topic.

I have found marriage records in Mississippi where he married a Lulu Benz Pass Christian, Mississippi. He at one time lived in New Orleans and by trade was a carpenter. He served in the Illinois unit in the Spanish American War and is buried in the military section of the cemetary in Bay St.Louis, Mississippi. If anybody knows any descendants of John Dahlberg or relatives of Lulu Benz Dahlberg I would be very interested in hearing from you.

I am searching for a great-uncle, Hinkle WINDHAM, who completed civil draft registration for WWI in Madison parish, Louisiana. Hinkle lived in Laurel, Jones county, Mississippi, and was probably born there. Need to confirm that his father was James Samuel WINDHAM. Birth: 2 Oct 1878. Where did he live? Did he die in Louisiana??? Would appreciate any info on him, as this is the extent of the information that I have.

A tall double-columned grave marker stands sadly broken in
Ajax Cemetery, in rural Natchitoches Parish. It is for one
Amous Talmag Freeman (1890-1918) who died in WWI.
I believe he was my grandfather's nephew, the son of Crittenden
and Callie Freeman.
I would appreciate any data on his military service record, etc.
