I am looking for a photo of my uncle who died while in the Marines. I never got to meet him. I am hoping someone will have a picture of him in his dress blues or otherwise. I know he graduated from MCRD San Diego on Oct. 19, 1953 from 5th rtbn in case anyone has a graduation book. He went from there to Camp Pendelton to G Company, 2nd Bn, 2nd Infantry training regiment. His name was James C. Hillian. Thank You

I am looking for my father, Jim Watson. All I know is that he was in the Marines but already out by the time i was born which was in 1968. The only other info i have is he might have been around 22-24 yrs old in 1968 and he lived in Dana Point, California. He either worked or owned a gas station. He wanted to marry my mother and relocate to Carmel, California. I am at a loss as to how to begin to locate him. Can anyone help?

Obit. Beverly M. HILL

NEW YORK CITY - Beverly Ann Hill, 70, a former resident of Youngstown, passed to another life on Christmas morning, December 25, 2007, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital as a result of complications from kidney disease.

Beverly Hill was born April 8, 1937 in New York City to the late Pompeii and Valentina Hill and subsquently, the family moved to Youngstown, Ohio.

Upon graduation from South High School, she enrolled at Kent State University, and later entered the Marine Corps achieving the rank of Lieutenant. She then continued her passion for life by teaching at St. Patrick’s School on Glenwood Avenue.
Beverly moved to New Jersey in the 1960s and began working in her career as director of Human Resources in health care. In New York City, she realized she had a dream of caring for animals.
In an article in the New York Times, Sept. 26, 1993, a mention is made of Beverly Hill’s Laundermutt, in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, as a “grooming emporium.” Beverly ran this successful business and, in true Beverly character, immersed herself in civic life, serving on boards and block associations and earning for herself the affectionate title of “Mayor of Grove Street.” She was a strong advocate for the care and protection of all animals, placing more than 300.

Beverly spent the last five years of her life on dialysis, valiantly fighting to maintain her health, her spirit, her life, and her independence, while somehow demonstrating her strong love of family, friends and strangers in need.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Hill.
A memorial service to celebrate her extraordinary life will be held in New York City. It will be followed by a Maxim/Hill family memorial service before resting in Calvary Cemetery.

Youngstown Vindicator
January 3, 2008

USMC--But Which Unit?

I hope there is someone out there who can help me with this question.

My father enlisted in the Marines in Feb. 1942 at Phoenix. He was discharged in Dec. 1944. I know very little of his war-time experience because he talked very little about it. Here is what I do know:

He crossed the Pacific to Hawaii aboard the converted luxury liner "Lurline". He mentioned that he spent time on Samoa, Eniwetok, and Guadalcanal. When asked if he was involved in the battles there, he replied he was in "mop up". He "drove a truck", but my mother said he was also responisble for mail distribution.

There is a story that he and another Marine were sent by a superior officer to either an Army base or Navy base (where I don't know) to request some supplies, and that CO told his enlisted man to "give these Marines some food so they don't die on us."

My dad was given a medical discharge and returned to Hawaii on an Australian ship. He recuperated at Sun Valley, Idaho where he was given his discharge.

I am in possession of a photostat copy of his discharge papers, and the only thing I got from the National Archives/St. Louis was a certificate of military service.

I would like to find out exactly what Unit/Company/Battalion etc. my father served in, the different locations where he was stationed and at what time. Is there any way to get this information?

(PS: He used to joke that my mother would cook enough to feed the 92nd Marines, but I don't know if that was his unit or not.)

I'm trying to research my uncle STEPHEN JANDROKOVIC JACKSON. I know he was in the Marines (have him on the 1930 census for Quantico), but I don't know where he was stationed. I've sent for his military records, but I'm not expecting much because of the lack of information. I know he was in China at some point. He married a woman (not Chinese)& brought her back here. She was from Tinseing or shanghi. They had a daughter born in Pa. The mother & daughter went back to China to live & my uncle changed his
last name to JACKSON. Could be because he & his 1st wife were never divorced, don't know the answer to this.

According to his WWI draft card, Charles was a pharmacist at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Chicago, IL. His grand daughter says that there is a picture of him in uniform. She said he was an officer in the Marines. I've traced him through the census and his occupation is always pharmacist and he moved around from census to census. How can I find out if he was infact in the military? Could he have been a civilian employed by the U.S. Marines? If so, would he have had a uniform?
My father-in-law is trying to locate his former USMC Staff Sgt William S. GROFF. His last contact with William GROFF is a letter posted in 1958 from Gardena, CA, where William was living at the time. In the letter he states that he has one daughter born 4 years earlier (ca 1954) no name given. He also states that he has recently taken a trip to New Jersey, that he was currently attending USC, and had been treated by the USN for TB in 1956.

This is all the information I have.

If you have any information concerning this William S. Groff, please email me. Thank you in advance for your help.

Lisa
What I am trying to do is identify a Marine by finding out what his arm patch means. I figure that will narrow my search quite a bit. Can anyone tell me where to look to identify the arm patch? Could I email the photo to one of you who might know? Thanks for any help you can give. Nancy

WWI Marine records

Where can I find records for the Marines from WWI? Am looking for my grandfather, Joseph Peter Steck, who served in the Corps in France 1916-1918. He was in the 2nd Division, the 5th regiment, which was the only regiment to win some kind of award from the French government. Unfortunately, the family has lost the records/documents. Any ideas of how to find him would be great. Have searched in the WWI Civilian Enlistment records from Ancestry.com and he's not there.
I know he existed, my dad and his sister knew him....

Flying in B-24 Liberators, this photo reconnaissance squadron mapped the South Pacific and monitored South Pacific islands for Japanese activity.

We are currently documenting the squadron, creating memorials for deceased veterans, and attempting to locate many missing squadron members.

We were in the Marine Corps together stationed @ Camp Lejeune, NC in the early 1980's. And I am trying to get in touch with Linda Wolfe-Holp. She has a daughter named Carla Wolfe (though now she is married), with at least 2 grandchildren I heard. Her daughter was living in PA at the time. Linda was going to school to become a "Mortician" in Illinois. Her family is from there, and she has a sister named "Millie" I was in the Marine Corps with her, and the last letter I received was in 1993, when we were living in San Antonio, TX. I lost touch because we had to move back to Wisconsin, due to my mother being sick in June of 1994. And I have been trying to find her. I do believe she is remarried and her husbands name is Gene. The last I heard she was in the "Belleville, Ill" area. She did send me her sisters "Millie" last name but I can't find it anywhere. If anyone can help out, please email me. I would be eternally grateful

Fred was raised by his grandparents George and Lydia Kane and lived primarily in Newburgh, NY. Fred's mother's name was Eleanor Davis. I have filed with the FOIA office for military records. Fred died in May of 2004. Any one out there know Fred and what he's activites were during his length of service?

I need some information on a man and a military base in South Korea. My great-uncle, John Allen, fought in the Korean War, and was awarded a medal at his death, which I think was either in 1951 or 1952. I know he did something heroic, and saved his regiment or battalion or something and ended up having a Camp over there named after him. As far as I know, it's called Camp John Allen, but I haven't even been able to find proof that it exists, or what he did to earn the medal and get the camp named after him. If anyone has any info, I would appreciate it very much, my mother wants this information, but the only people in my family who knew of his acts have died. Please, please, please reply to this if you know something about it!

Earl D. Case - Killed Iwo Jima 1945 - D-Day

Earl D. Case was my uncle and was only 17 when he died. He enlisted in June 24, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and transferred to Parris Island S. C. on September 6, 1944. On October 23, 1944 he was shipped over to Camp Lejeune N. C. and was in the 31st Repl. Draft 5th Marine Division. He was then shipped out on the Gen. E. T. Collins for Iwo Jima Islands. As soon as the boat landed, a sniper shot and killed him on Red Beach 2. I have been searching for a picture of his graduating class from Parris Island and it doesn't seem like I can get it. I know there is one but they want his Platoon number and there isn't one. He didn't even have a SSN. Could someone please help me locate this picture, I know there is one. During this time frame, he had a son born in July of 1945 of which I have located him and he doesn't even have a picture due to the fact that his mother had remarried and he was adopted. His mother wants nothing to do with his side of the family. (mother is now deceased) So he doesn't even know what his father looked like. I have all information on his military information but no picture. Please Help me locate this picture, as I and my cousin have been searching for years. If anyone has advised to give me or even knows of someone who would have been in the same platoon that I could contact would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks.
Melanie

ISO a possible military family, last name Wilson. In 1943 they were in Louisiana and in 1964 Texas.

I am an adoptee born 21 May 1964 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have just learned that my birthmother's last name was WILSON and that she was born in Louisiana in 1943.

Her family moved all over the country when she was a child (possibly military?). At the time of my birth in 1964, she was 21 years old and living in Pittsburgh. Presumably her family had already moved to Texas, because she joined them there after my birth.

She named me Delores (Dolores?) Ellen Wilson before relinquishing me. I realize this is a long shot, but I am posting EVERYWHERE. If this sounds like any family you know, please respond. Thank you.

Seeking any information on behalf of my father, John Wayne Spillers, born in Fredericksburg, VA on September 2, 1945. Birth mother and father's name unknown. Have read that biological father worked at a commissary (Quantico?) and gave the birth mother rides to work. Birth father was married with two children when birth mother became pregnant. Not sure if Spillers was his or her last name. Birth mother dropped my father off to be cared for by a black woman, Calcenia Cook, for such long periods of time that the state got involved and facilitated an adoption. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
