LCI (G) 19 or LCI (L) Flotilla 37 in August 1945

Does anyone have a picture of the LCI (G) 19 that left San Diego on August 20, 1945 and arrived in Pearl Harbor on August 29th? I believe this ship was originally named LCI (L), part of Flotilla 37 scheduled for the invasion of Japan. Clare S. Osgerby of Caro, Michigan, was a S 2C aboard this ship. Any information you can provide about the ship would be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

I am 23 yrs old and have never met nor have even seen a picture of my father. i have for years tried to picture his face, tried to imagine his face , his smell. But most of all why hed leave a child not even born yet. I mean i try not to judge because i have no idea his side of the story all i have is my mothers side. So i am sorry let me give you some details. My mother stems from anancortes, Wa there is a navy base located near there. My mother (Sharon Wallin) hung out there and met a man named John Campbell(not sure of the spelling) well according to her she met him they dated were engaged to be married had premarital sex. She got pregnant told him at wich point he practically disowned me left her and had a transfer to another base. Now beings that millitary records are sealed i have no idea where to start my search. my grandmother god rest her soul searched for years to find him. When we went back to washington to make all the arrangements for her passing. I stumbled across a address and phone number listed as John campbell. so i proceeded to call it, I reached a woman who got very enraged when i called and told me that i was trying to destroy a veterans life, I have no intention of ruining his life i want nothing more than to know why and medical history from his side so that my kids may have the info they may very well need. I mean ther is no worse feeling knowing your whole life you are a bastard and unloved by the father that made you. But worse than that is my 3 yr old son asking why his daddy has no daddy i mean what do you tell a 3yr old. I wont lie to him. I thank you for your time and understanding, Also do appoligize for my lack of words and overall writting. Its just that i have tried for years to express it and can never come up with the words. If you can give any advice on how to reach him, how to find him, where to start. I would greatly appricate it. I am however very tight on money and cant afford to pay for a people search. So if at all possible to use free services it would help a great deal. you can reach me at my email address j01wallin@yahoo.com

How to read the Military file?

I am very fortunate to have been able to obtain my ggreat grandfathers Navel File from the NARA, but I am have a hard time finding out what so much of it means. Google is not being very helpful at this point since I really don't know what I am looking for.

I am wondering why there is Statement of Service records in his file long after I know of him to be in the Navy. He served from 1899-1903 and then joined again in 1917 while in Panama. He was soon released from service to be promoted to Ensign. But the service records are dated in 1936, 1939 and the last one in 1940. Why would they keep adding to his file? I wonder because I don’t know when he passed away and I’m trying to narrow it down. I wonder if these memos are caused by something he did?

He also has a Certificate of Military Service that says it was given in ST. Louis, Missouri on May 21, 1979. The man was born in 1876 and I don't think he lived to be 103 years old. How could he be presented with this?

If there are any suggestions as to where I can find the “code” on these military records that would be great! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a photo from the Vietnam Era that has this stamp on the back and I would like to get info on the photo or have the Navy send contact info for this person so he knows I have a couple of his photos. I have no idea who he is or I would query by name. I have went to the Navy Station photos of Treasure Island at lonesoldier.com and looked through them all and did not find a match. But some soldiers have updated their photos so it is a hard thing to compare.
I am in the process of looking through all the photos under the Great Lakes Station and so far am on page 26 of 76 with 100 per page... so if anyone could help me I would appreciate it. I email the Naval exchange and the library at the lonesoldier.com site but have got no response.
I don't want to bug this person, just share some memories possibly of my mother that has past away.

Can anyone tell me where to locate records of employees at the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pa in 1939. My grandfather worked at the yard in the 1930's and died at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in 1939.
I am thinking he must have been in the Navy in order to be a patient in the hosital. As far as I know he was not a dependent. I have written to the National Personnel Records Center for the Navy Records.

Russell William Allaman--Missing Sailor

Russell William Allaman joined the Navy a number of years before WWII. A photo taken of him in the late 1930s shows 12 years of service stripes on his sleeve and what appears to be the insignia of a senior petty officer. A letter from the FBI was sent to the family in late 1940 stating he is being declared a deserter because he has been absent from leave since September of that year. A second letter, from his sister to the sailor's wife infers the sailor lost his life on a ship. A family member stated he had some type life insurance policy, but they would not pay because there was no body. Supposedly Allaman was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed but survived. The military claimed he was last seen at New York Harbor. The last the family heard from the sailor was in 1939, when he had been released from a Navy hospital in San Francisco.

If anyone has access to records that might indicate this man's fate or shed some light on his service up to that time, I would appreciate any information that can be provided. Again, his name was Russell William Allaman. He was born about 1899 and a resident of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, before enlisting. NOTE: There is a William Russell Allaman, born the same year and who also served in the military. He was from Illinois and is NOT the same man.

Hi All
I hoping some of you with knowledge of 1800"s navy protocol might be able to answer this.

Was it at all common for an officer to have his chaplain or superior perform his marriage while in home port in the 1890's? If so, would the record be registered within that state, or would it fall under navy jurisdiction?

Thanks
Jeanne

Hello. I'm doing a family history for my Husband's family. My husband's father enlisted in the US Navy in WWII in New York City and served from WWII thru Korea and Vietnam. We know he was stationed in a number of places, including Trinidad in the Carribbean after WWII (later 1940's), somewhere in North Carolina, Hawaii (during the early 1960's)where he and his wife adopted two sons, and Oakland Caliornia where James was retired medically because he had gotten cancer. (He eventually beat the cancer, surviving until 1993.) James was married to Irene, they were both from Brooklyn New York. James really wanted to be a Marine, but he was too short, and they wouldn't take him, so he had to enlist in the Navy instead. He became a Navy Corpman. He may have been called "Cass" by his friends.

Is there anyone out there who remembers James, and would share some memories of him, so that they can be shared with his children and grandkids?? One thing that seems to be true of old soldiers is that the more stuff they saw, the less they talk about it. James would hardly speak at all about his military service time, which lasted nearly 30 years.

I'd be thrilled to hear from anyone who knows about James.
THank you!
Lisa Casserly

Although these are not rosters these men did service on these ship at one time.

The info comes from Library Of Congress from a report called: A statement of all the claims which have been adjusted and allowed at the Treasury Department, and for which certificates of registered debt issued, in virtue of a law entitled " An act providing for settlement of claims of persons under particular circumstances barred by limitations heretofore established." passed on March 27, 1792.

The information will be Ship, Date of certificate, Name, Rank, Year of commencing of certificate & Amount.

Note. The years covered are 1776-1795

To see this list come to my website at the following address:
Dennis Segelquist
Military & Civilian Surname Searcher
http://civilwarthosesurnames.blogspot.com

Hello: I'm new to the Navy Board. But I have a question: Do any one except me know about the Japanese exploding a small A-Bomb of Hunnan, Korea Aug 12, 1945? I came across the article in the American Heritage Mag on line dated Dec. 1970 that told the story of how the Jap's have been keeping the story out of their papers for years about exploding their first A-Bomb back in Aug. 1945. If any one would like more data or discuss the story please do respond. Thanks Bill Layton billlayton_50@yahoo.com

"Good" discharge question 1921 *

Hi all, perhaps greater minds than mine can assist with our mystery!

We rec'd a copy of our deceased grandfather's military personnel file from the Navy. He enlisted in March of 1920. The date of d/c is shown in December, 1921.
Well short of the time he signed up for!

There is a copy of a memo from grandfather, on the "U.S.S. Pruitt -- 347" to his C.O. it says, Subject: Discharge, request for.
Reference: (a) C in C despatch 0012 -1220.

"In accordance with reference (a) I respectfully request that I be discharged as soon as practicable."

Evidently this was granted. He was discharged at Charleston, South Carolina, on account of "Special Order of BUNAV." with "Good" for convenience of the Gov.
Recommended for re-enlistment? Yes
Recommended for good conduct medal? Yes

There is nothing stated, anywhere, what the reason for discharge was. Anyone have any thoughts?

(Nothing in the family history occurs in December of 1921 which would account for this.)

Nels Anderson - Navy Officer (Admiral?)

Searching for information about Nels Anderson born in Sweden in june 1882. The only facts that I have are two notices from Census in 1910 and 1920 there a Nels Anderson are officer - 1910 at USS Michigan as Boatswain Mate second class, 1920 at USS Leonidas as lieutenant. I don't know if it's the same man.
The local stories says that he should have advanced to admiral and was a senior officer in the planning and maintaining of the convoys to North Africa (Operation Torch) in Second World War.
Facts that I also know are that he had two sisters with families living in Seattle (King County) named Mary Nygard, died in LA 09-04-1974 and Thelma Overland, died in Seattle 11-22-1969.
Nels died presumably around 1960.
I will be very grateful for any information about him.

Best regards from PeO Åstbom, Arvika, Sweden
