Vietnam War/Everett Tabor

Is there anyone out there that can answer a few questions for me. My youngest brother was killed in Vietnam in 1967 and I just found out about it. I am despertly trying to find out where he may be buried or contact any of his family members. We had different mothers and I was very young when he died, so I never had the chance to know him.

My question is: Is there a special place they bury veitnam vets? Or is it a family decision. It is my understanding he was from Pekin Illinois, was married, and he was only 26 years old. His full name was Everett Leroy Tabor,SP5-E5-Army-Regular 1st log command in Bien Hoa, South Vietnam, ground casualty.Body was recovered.

If anyone can help, I was greatly appreciate it.

Thanks Shirley

This is a strange request and I hope it doesn't upset anyone. I am looking for possible GIBSON family members in Hancock County, TN. As a child, I attended a funeral for a Gibson "cousin" who died during Viet Nam military services. I seem to recall it was in the summer and quite probably between 1962 and 1966. I have located an Ernest Gibson that fits the criteria, but can't find any of his family information because it was so recent. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks in advance!

I would like some help from those veterans who survived the war in Vietnam. I am a 15 year old boy who is looking for information on how difficult it was to fight against the Viet-Cong. Any information on their tactics, and what we attempted to counter with would be great. I am doing a school research project, and I would like to have first hand sources. The books can't tell me what happened, they weren't there. Please be true, don't edit, I have heard many of WWII stories, I can handle it. Also, please include your name so I may cite you, you may stay anonymous if you'd like.
I am looking for Andy Iverson, served with the 199th(?) in Vietnam. Service was with two other close buddies unknown to each other prior to meeting, possibly met in Ft. Benning prior to shipping out together. Andy's age at time of service was young, he would have been born approx. 1947, give or take a year or two. Other two guys last names were Bedard and Ingham and they were about the same age.

There are no strings to this inquiry, one of the guys is looking for his old buddy "Andy Iverson". All would be approx. 60 years old now, give or take a year.

Any information appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration in reviewing this email
We are looking for people that knew John Andrew Jakovac (born 10 Apr 47, Ontanogon, MI) who attended Lincoln Park High School (Michigan) from 1960-1964? He did not graduate. Joined the Army in Oct 1964 and died in Vietnam on 30 May 1967. His mothers name was Alice Solonen (maiden name?) or Alice Hakanon (later married name?). His sisters were Barbara Lewis (married name, born 31 Mar 38) and Maxine Heron (married name, born 23 Sep 41). I am trying to find any of his family or friends that knew him before he went into the army. I have lots of information about the operation on which he died. Thank you.

Vietnam War Memorial Digitized

Footnote Digitizes the Vietnam War Memorial
via TechCrunch on 3/25/08

Footnote has taken the initiative to digitize all 58,000 names inscribed into the Vietnam War Memorial. It has also correlated them with military personnel records from the National Archives and made this information searchable from within an interactive Flash application.

The project started by hiring a National Geographic photographer to take over 2,000 high quality photos of the wall. The company then stitched them together, indexed the names, and pulled out information about each person from two major national databases: one for casualties and one for personnel. The whole process took about four months to complete and the end result is being provided for free.

If you want to find a particular name, you can run a simple keyword search. You’ll be shown key facts such as the person’s rank, grade, specialty, and casualty date. You can also search for names that conform to certain criteria such as enlistment type, race, hometown, casualty date, squadron, and much more.

The main intention of Footnote, which launched in January 2007, is to digitize original source content in its original form. Most of the content comes from the National Archives and therefore remains in the public domain, but the company charges a subscription fee for access to most of it.

CEO Russ Wilding says he also wants the service to become the “world’s shoebox” where people upload their own historical materials, and then annotate, manage and share them with others.

Expect Footnote to digitize other memorials from around the globe such as the ones at Ellis Island and Pearl Harbor.

According to his serial number he was from either; Pennsylvania, W.Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Indiana or Kentucky. And of course there is the possibilty that he has moved. So far I have written to more than 50 Jim Cains, many of whom have served in the military, many have not answered. Perhaps he does not want to be found, which is ok, I would like to know, so I can call of the search. Thank You, Hunter

I would like to know more about him. I don't have any pics of him and would like to get one to do a scrapbook page about him. My grandparents, Doris & Ford Vincent, use to talk about him like he was a saint. I grew up on stories about how awesome he was. It is for my own personal use and I will give you credit. What I would like to find is a military photo,an everyday photo or school photo. But since it's going to be a page "In Memory of..." I would like to have a few Military photos.
I am unsure of the spelling of this last name. I am looking for information about Richard Issacson who served in the Ohio National Guard in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I believe he was released from duty in 1971. He was stationed at the Parma Nike Site. Any information about him would be greatly appreciated. I believe he may be my father. I was told he was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Ohio. He was born about 1940-1946. His family lived in Cinncinati, Ohio.

looking for for Stephen Richard Betts

He has disappeared about twenty years ago, when my husband was only one or two, we don't have much information on him except that he was in the Air Force and served his time in Korea. He is from New York, though he did abandon two children (that we know of) with his then wife in Southern New Jersey. After returning from the war seemed very different. No knowledge of him continuing school or any other children though he has remarried. He has one brother and two sisters, his father passed away a few years ago and did not attend the funeral, either not knowing or is himself deceased. He left everything and may have been in money trouble which means he could be homeless or had been at one time. Please, if anyone has any idea of where to go or how we could find him, let us know.

I recently found out that my Uncle died in the Vietnam War yet I cannot find his name on the Wall. I don't know why it wouldn't be there. Can anyone help me? His name was Lawrence Jack Gardner, Jr. born in Washington on 12/14/1931. That is all I know about him. Wish I knew more. If someone out there knows anything about him or can tell me why his name isn't on the Wall , I'd love to hear from you. thanks!

From The Pittsburgh Press, Monday, 7/21/1969:

"War Hero Dies in Cycle Plunge"

Pensacola, Fla. -- Marine Maj. Steven Pless, holder of the Congressional Medal of Honor and one of America's most decorated heroes in Vietnam, was killed here when his motorcycle vaulted a bridge span, when it opened to let a barge through.

Maj. Pless plunged into the water beneath the bridge linking Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. Divers pulled his body from the water after a seven-hour search.

Maj. Pless, 29, won his decorations while flying 780 combat missions in Vietnam as helicopter pilot.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor for rescuing four soldiers trapped by heavy enemy fire at Quang Nga on Aug. 19, 1967. A native of Foley, Ala., Maj. Pless also had been awarded the silver star, the distinguished flying cross, the bronze star, the Navy commendation medal, a purple heart and 38 air medals.

[Note: a small photo accompanies the article.
Alternate source for Military Records destroyed in the Fire of 1973?

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to get military records of my deceased father-in-law, Emery Robertson. He has been dead for 26 years and I have just been told that his military service records were destroyed in the 1973 fire in St. Louis.

It is imperative that we get these records to prove that my husband is an american citizen (German mother - war bride) My husband was born in Germany and has a German birth certificate. No record of submission to the american consulate and no records of any naturalization. Both parents are dead and other family scattered with whereabouts unknown.

We were told by immigration that we needed military records of my husbands father to prove his fathers residence in the US for 5 years after his fathers 14th birthday. (his father dropped out of school and joined the military at 15 years old) He was in Korea and in Vietnam. Army and Air force.

ANY help /. suggestions would be appreciated!!!!!

Thank you so much for reading!

Evelyn (White) Robertson

evelynwr7@netzero.com

John Lewis Moore Vietnam vet.

Did anyone know John Lewis Moore from Virginia (stationed in Jacksonville, FL at some point during the 60's? I believe he was either a master chief or maybe in the military police (again unsure exactly). He served in Vietnam, then passed away when my husband was only 3 years old. We have no pictures but know his family still lives in the Virginia Roanoke area. Any help would be appreciated.

Are there medivac records that document what base a soldier was evacuated from? I was evacuated from a FSB after contracting malaria. It was not a normal medivac. It was just a chopper going into Long Bihn or Bein Hoa that took me to the hospital. I thought this information would help me look for a needle in a haystack. When I left the FSB the only thing I had on me was the clothes I was wearing and my wallet. I left behind my rucksack which contained a instamatic camera with photos of the guys I left behind. I want to track these photos down and see some of my old buddies. ANY HELP HERE?

Carol-Has It Been A Hundred Years?

I found a poem on a website today that I absolutely fell in love with. I may not be able to relate to it exactly because being a 17 year old girl in 2006, I have obviously not beed to war, but I do think I can relate for the most part. The poem is about how the man who wrote it is very unhappy over in Vietnam during the war, but all he has to do is think of his girlfriend's smile and it brings a smile to his face. I can relate to that because everytime I'm upset, all I have to do is think of my boyfriend and it makes me smile.
It is a very touching poem and I think anyone who's in love should read it.
The Website To Read The Poem Is:
http://www.vietnamexp.com/poems/page3.htm#CAROL%20–%20HAS%20...?
