The Army register for 1813, is for officers only and is for the United States Army. I have very little info for the Militia regiments. If however we are talking about the U. S. Army then I believe we are talking about Colonel Ed. P. Gaines. Who took rank March 12, 1813, and was Adj. General by Brvet. I looked at all the lineal rank for Charles but he was not on it. I also looked at the pension roll for Va. Thinking he died there, but he was not on it. I did find info that he married Mahala in 1822, but it gave no other info. The only thing I can think of is that he was not a officer, it's also possible that you family story is in error?
