Anyone who might run the "Col. Andrew Hynes papers" to ground may find interesting revelations about the trip on flatboats downriver from Nashville to New Orleans made by the Tennessee Militia in Nov. of 1814. My Gr. Gr. Grandfather, Samuel Dunaway was a lieutenant in a company of the 2nd. West Tennessee Militia Infantry Reg'mt who made that trip to Chalmette. I found the Hynes papers in the Tulane Univ. library years ago and was allowed to hand copy a few things from them. Renewing my interest shortly after Hurricane Katrina, I inquired about them and was told they may have been destroyed by the storm. I was advised that the University of TN @ Martin might have copies, however I have not pursued that.Down on flatboats and home up the Natchez trace on "shank's mare"! What a trip! I have gr. gr. granpa's pay record and his discharge wherin it states that "his service entitles him to the gratitude of his country". Colonel Hynes was adjudent to Gen. Carroll, commander of the TN Militia, who also served later as Governer of Tennessee.
