Hi Teresa,

You need to use NATF Form 86 to order these records from the National Archives. You can download the form in a pdf format and mail it in, you can email the order, or you can request that they mail you hard copies to fill out and return. This page gives you instructions:

There are links to both methods of obtaining the form/information. If your soldier served in two different units, you will have to order the Compiled Records in two separate orders, as the information is researched and filed by each regiment separately. You might want to read everything at the link. Also, if you suspect your ancestor filed a pension form or was given land for his service, you have to use additional, different forms (NATF Form 85).
