Hi!

I too am researching the Bishop line and in my research of this family, I have been led to information regarding a Carpenter Bishop who is listed as a Private in McMahan's NY Militia for the War of 1812 and I'm wondering if this is the same Carpenter Bishop that I am descended from. It is an unusual name and I have only located one during the early 1800s in NY so it is very probable that this is the same man. Is there a way to locate the area that the men in this militia were from? The information on Ancestry.com only lists name, rank, and roll (box 17, exct. 602) and I'd like to find out if he was from Albany Co. I'm also interested in where the Bishops you are researching came from. They wouldn't happen to be from this same area would they?
