Trying to find where Joseph Rogers Brown served in the war of 1812.
He was born in Stephentown, Rensselaer Com NY. Not sure where he married in 1813. His 1st child is said to have been born
in Lancaster , Erie Co, NY. By 1819 he was in Huron Co, Ohio.
Some family information says Joseph was a Capatain.

I found a number of Minnerly (spelling variations; Minnes, Minner, Minerly, Minnelay) ancestors from Westchester County listed as members of Hobby's Regiment of NYS Militia during the War of 1812. I wonder if anyone has any info on this unit? Who was Hobby? Were they involved in any skirmishes?

Nehemiah Phillips was a War of 1812 (Col. E. H. Metcalf's
Heavy Artillery Regiment, 13th Brigade, New York) draftee and received a substantial Land Warrant upon his departure from the service. His family came from Rhode Island, but no one bothered to write down his parents'. 13th New York State Militia Heavy Artillery
Organized at Suffolk, Va., for three months, May 28, 1862. Mustered out September 28, 1862
Nehemiah Phillips was born in Rhode Island in 1791 and died in Sodus, New York on 12 October 1876. He is buried in the Bushnell/Swales/Tinkelpaugh Cemetery

I would like to find documentation on Daniel Benson's(Onondaga Co., NY)service in the War of 1812. I have been told, "In 1801, Daniel was appointed ensign in the 3rd co, of the 4th regiment of Onondaga Co. In 1803, he was a lieut. and, in 1804, he was promoted to captain. In 1807, he was made 2nd major of a newly formed unit. He was a major in the war of 1812 and his son, Elias Benson, was a drummer boy."

I have two Generals according to Tombstones who are buried in Wyoming County Ny(at one time part of Genesee Co.)...We thought at 1st they were Rev War Generals but DAR records show both as only being privates in that war. The both have Rev. War markers. It was suggested that they might have been Generals in the War of 1812....could someone verify this and if so give a bit more info. on each gentleman....

His name was Daniel Graves, b. 1794 in New York.

Col James Bennett died in 1819 in Homer, Cortland Co, NY. He left a wife and many children. Does anyone know of the names of his wife and children? He served in the Rev War and, though unlikely, may have also served in the War of 1812. Or some of his sons may have served in the War of 1812.

Joshua was a quarter-master on the U. S. frigate United States, his allowance was $72. dollars a year he had received $1,o226. dollars. He was placed on the pension rolls on March 15, 1817, commencement of his pension was on March 17, 1831. Then his rates were raised by the creased of his disability. His allowance is now $108 dollars a year this was placed on the rolls on March 17, 1831 and the commencement was on March 16, 1831, he had now received $3,20.70 dollars.

Statement from Navy Claims.

Joshua states that on the night of August 22, 1813, a party of armed men from the ship Ramilies, Commanded by Commodore Hardy, forcibly entered his house and took him from his bed and carried him off by force and without any clothing but with the exception of his shirt, to the said ship lying off Gardiners bay. He was put in irons and put in close confinement. He was sent to Halifax and was badly treated till May 20, 1814, at this time he was liberated from prison and sent to Salem Massachusetts in a cartol, while confined on board he received nothing but bread and water. All this happen because he had once been in the employment of Commodore Decatur as a pilot to a torpedo.

In 1835, he had a petition for remuneration for services rendered by him while on board a privateer called the Montgomery, commanded by Captain William Rodgers, during the revolutionary war.

In 1836, he had a petition praying that the pension which he was granted to him in 1832, for services rendered to the United States in 1776, and which has been discontinued, may be restored to him.

In 1837, he had a Bill in Congress and was asking Congress to restored him to the pension rolls the Bill was passed and all arrears due him since last paid was paid in full and his allowance was restored to the full $24 dollars.

The only info I have that this guy was in the War of 1812 is that it is listed on his headstone. He is buried in Half Moon, Saratoga Co. New York. He died 30 Sep 1877.
I have no idea what militia etc he was in or what battles he fought in but would love to find out more info. Any help would be appreciated.

1st. Regiment, Heavy Artillery

My ggg grandfather, Peter Culver fought with the c/n Regiment under the command of Captain Nathaniel Leonard. He enlisted in Niagara, NY on the 1st. of April, 1811. He was later captured in the Battle of Queenston Heights, where although defeated they still dealt a serious blow by killing General Isaac Brock. He was later released and served out his term in Sackett's Harbor, NY under the comand of Captain James H. Boyle. He received an honorable discharge in 1815, four years after his enlistment.

Any further info regarding the above would be appreciated.

NY Military Equipment Claim, War 1812 Help?

Hi, I just discovered my GGG Grandfather Thomas Fields applied for and received compensation for his apparent use of personal items in the war of 1812.
The claim number is 8841 and was requested from his home in Jackson, Michigan where he moved in 1835. During the War of 1812 he lived in Genesee County NY, where he is presumed to have joined the militia or regular Army.
How would I find out more and especially find his application for this claim?

In the biography of John H Bennett, Sauk Co, WI, he states that his father Loniel Bennett served in the Army of New York in the War of 1812. So far, I have been unable to find any soldier with the last name Bennett and first name Loniel/Lionel. He lived in Homer during the war, and moved to Ohio after 1820.

John was to have left CT for Canajoharie NY in about 1820 but stumbling onto my old notes I realized this is probably wrong. I am guessing he was alredy in NY by 1814. I am wondering from what area unit recruited from. I found one person for the company who was drafted near where John's brother lived, Saratoga Springs.

I'm searching for William Torrey Waterman. In Donald Jacobus' book, 'Decendants of Robert Waterman', it is mentioned that William Torrey Waterman joined in the War of 1812 as a privateer, was captured in the West Indies and died in an English prison. This is a brickwall for me in trying to determine his decendants. My additional research shows that he married Rachelle Lovegrove 1803 in Troy and I find him in the 1810 Census in Watervliet. Any additional help in recommending resources to search would be sincerely appreciated.

23rd Regt casualties of the 2nd Battle of Sacketts Harbor

I am researching Private Hewitt Mead, 23rd Regiment, New York Militia. He was originally from Genoa in Cayuga County. Hewitt is reported to have died in late 1814 from wounds received at the Battle of Sacketts Harbor. He is not buried at the battlefield and I have not been able to locate his grave in Cayuga County. Does anyone know where the wounded from this battle would have been hospitalized. I don't suppose he was transported very far. Perhaps he is buried in Jefferson County or near a military hospital. His wife Rachel Brown Mead died in 1813. My information about him is from the bounty land index. However the actual application can not be found.

I am hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. My great-great-great grandfather, Matthew Lane, fought in the War of 1812. I only know this because his son's (Garret B. Lane) obituary states that he served in the war. I do not have much more information on Matthew, other than that he was born in New York (per Garret's death certificate).

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me find more information on Matthew, as it will likely also help me find information on Matthew's father as well. Garret's obituary also states that Matthew's father served in Washington's army...

parents were killed by the Indians and he was held captive for
7 years. He was known as Big John The Indian Hater.
He was an Indian scout after he escaped from them.
He was john Seger in his will, but his first child was George
Sager, according to the census. He married in 1818 in Painted Post, Ny. He met his future wife at a Military Ball.

If anyone has any information on or rosters from this NY regiment from the War of 1812, I would appreciate it if you could contact me. I believe is was a Militia regiment and not regular army. My ancestor, Daniel Churchill was in this regiment and was promoted to Lt. in 1814 in Cayuga County. He was also promoted to Capt. in 1817 in Ontario County. That is about all I know. How would I learn more of Lucas's service in the New York Militia? I think he is likely father of Zelum Dibble. They were in same household in Richfield, Genessee Co., MI in 1850. Lucas was 62 and does not appear again. His likely wife was Sally, maiden name unknown, for she too was in Zelum's household in 1850, age 60; and does not appear again.

I have a sword that has been in my family for generations, but nobody knows anything about it. The type of sword matches with those used in the War of 1812. I believe it belonged in the branch of the family that was from upstate New York. I have nothing else to go on.

Q: Are there any comprehensive lists of those who served from New York if I don't have a town or a last name, just the initials? I am willing to scan all the "B" last names, but I need to know where to get any sort of rosters or muster rolls or something to start with.

His widow was pregnant with their 4th daughter and quickly married a neighbor Charles A. Johnson with whom she had several more children. Working blind on this... looking for a lead..

I'm trying to find an Amos Barrows/Burrows from upstate NY,
who might have died in war of 1812. Might be from Wayne Cnty, Saratoga County or even Oneida County..

I have a Samuel Barrows/Burrows b. 1811-1854 living in Wayne County NY. His wife was dau of Amos Wadley from Wayne County NY. I can not figure out who Samuel descends from.

Amos Wadley's family moved to Wayne cnty NY in 1800
Amos Wadley served in Tucker's-76 Reg't-NY Militia in 1812 war.

Amos Wadley and Samuel Burrows were listed on 1840 Wayne Cnty Census (living next to each other).
Amos's daughter Sylvia, married Samuel Barrows. Amos Wadley moved to Michigan in 1846.

My theory is Amos Wadley and Amos Barrows served together during 1812 war. Just can't figure who the Barrows descend from ... could be Joseph Barrows and Ruth Eggleston from Saratoga. They had a Amos b.abt 1893 and not finding any info on him. Or maybe could be descended from Amos Burrows(rev.war) from Oneida., but not finding a son Amos b. around 1890-1895.

Any leads/ clues greatly appeciated... th;anks in advance..

Does anyone know if they were any WELLS who served in the War of 1812 and might have lived in Madison or Allegany Co., N. Y.? Looking for a veteran who may have had a son named Peter WELLS-b. 1810, Madison Co., N. Y.

There was a CPT Richard C. Hovey of NH b. 1792 that moved to Ft Covington, NY ca. 1817 and was listed there in the 1820 census with his family. He probably served with a NH unit. If you find anything on him, please let me know.

Abraham H Phillips fron Canada - enlisted in New York

Abraham H Phillips b. 1786, came to Canada as a young man. He settled in Hastings Co. Canada West (Ontario) and was resident there when he left to sign up for the War of 1812 in New York. After the war, he returned to Canada, married in 1818 and lived in Cannifton, Thurlow twp., Hastings Co until his death in 1875.

Questions - Was this a common occurance in this war?
Does anyone know anything else re Abraham?
How can I obtain furthur information?

Where to obtain War of 1812 records for a Fifer?

Can anyone help me figure out how to obtain records for my ancestor who was in the War of 1812? This is all I know (from Ancestry.com): Abner Hancock served in Company, "Rifle Battalion (Hall's), NY and was a "Fifer." Is there any way I can get records for him just from this info? I don't know what branch of the service he was in or anything other then the above. I could sure use some help!

My 4th-great-grandfather, Jeremiah F. YORK, I (1794 - 1876), was a veteran of the War of 1812. He enrolled in Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York on 12 Jan 1814 and served in Capt. Justus P. Spencer's Company, Col. Steven's regiment, N.Y. militia until his discharge on 14 Apr 1814.

On 12 Mar 1815, he married Rhoda SWEARS (a.k.a. SWEERS) in Gorham, Ontario County, New York. I have a lot of information on his descendants and residences from 1850 until his death.

I need information on his ancestors or birthplace!

In the book "Decendants of David Sage", note Q on page 116 indicates that Asahel (b. 1775) served in the Revolutionary War (War of 1812) at the battle of Queenston Heights. Has anyone found records to support this? From the census records,I have found him living in Lewiston, Niagara Co., NY between 1820 & 1860. Any info. concerning Asahel would be greatfully appreciated.

LAZENBYS in Swift's and Dobbin's Reg't.

While searching for Thomas LAZENBY I came across two listed for the war of 1812. One them in Company 2 of Swift's New York Militia and the other in Company 18 Dobbin's New York Militia.

Don't have much to go on but this: CLARK (first name unk?) from Onondaga Co, NY. was to have died in the War of 1812 from fever. He left a wife, Caturah (not for sure?) and several small children behind.
Can anyone tell me where to find proof of this.

Trying to find out any unit history to tie down an ancestor. I have an equipment claim for Henry Best of Capt. Schneider's company.He claims six months service discharged in 1814 at Brooklyn Heights. This is the only document that ties him to New York. Henry moved to Canada in 1818. Move may have been under suspecious circumstances. Any help appreciated.

Looking for info on Swifts and Dobbins Regt., I have downloaded a tree from WFT and seen that Levi VANNORMAN was in the War of 1812, assigned I believe to this Regt. If anyone knows or has a list of soldiers that served in this outfit, can you please let me know.

All I have is that, according to family history, Levi went into the wilderness and was never heard from again.
