PATTERSON, SAMUEL JAMES (selelcted), Tarentum. (entered) Sept 18, 1917; (age) 27; (branch) infantry; (company) Co I 319th Reg 80th Div.; (location) Camp Lee and France; (rank) corporal; (discharged) Dec 15, 1918; (notation) Overseas May 18, 1918 - Nov 16, 1918. Shell shocked in Argonne Forest. Returned a casual.
There are TWO pictures of him, the first in a group of 24 men leaving Tarentum Sept 5, 1917 where he is marked "alternate". The second in a group of 138 men leaving Tarentum Sept 19, 1917.
Many of the men from Tarentum had individual photos in the book, but Samuel does not. I'm not sure if the men had to SUBMIT the individual photos, but the majority are in uniform.
The contents of the book can be viewed on-line through the Uniov. of Pitt. Historic Pittsburgh website.
