you have EXACTLY the same problem I have! My grandfather was Ernest Longmore ASC Cpl T4/252691 (T stands for transport...see the picture) and I think the 4 refers to kitchener's 4th new army
He received the Victory and British medals RASC /101 B184 18887
He was also given a silver war badge because he was injured BUT we were always led to believe he was in the CAVALRY too!!!!!!! I thought I saw that there were some cavalry units( 2nd cavalry ???) in the asc. Like you I was dumbfounded to see his medal index saying he was in the rasc
