I'm making a book of military records about my great-grandfather, and giving it to my grandfather for a present. I am having trouble with what one specific line actually means. If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. The line is as follows:

"SS insignia delvd for target year 1917"

He was in the Marine Corps if that helps any.
