Thanks again for the useful links. I think I'll have to put aside a weekend or two to go through all the names I've found to work out where they were from. That may get me closer to working out if I have the right guy. I did have a quick look to see if I could find any other Gordon Highlanders with a close number ... looks like they might not have survived though, alas! But plenty of lines of investigation!
