My Grandfather Sydney (Sidney) Joseph Chalker served with the Dorset Regiment (No 27118) and the Hampshire Regiment (No 31378) in WW1. Have been unable to find much info on their battles, or on Sydney himself. The only other record I have found to date is the 1919 missing votees register when he is shown to be serving with the 5th Dorsets. We know that he was involved in one of the Battles where Mustard Gas was used as the affects of this killed him when only aged 37, but we don't know which Battle or whether he was serving with the Hampshire's or the Dorset's. So thought I might give a go at working backwards.
