WWII Casualty Death Certificate?

I am wondering if anyone knows who maintains a death certificate for those who died while deployed during world war II? Where would these records be maintained? I am having trouble locating these documents, no "officials" seem to know what paper work was done during WWII for a casuatlty or where it is located. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
